good luck to him and I hope he gets drafted by one of the Adelaide teams

Is this the same Jarod Petrenko who was given the equivalent of a footballing bath by one Thomas Holmes (his U/18 team mate) in the last minor round game???
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Holmes played on Jarrad for most (if not all) of that game... and was very impressive...

Petrenko is out for 6 months not 6 weeks. Still is a chance to get rookied.
I was surprised no Eagles were drafted.
I thought Salter had a good chance, surley he is as good as Nick Gill?

"Salter, surely hes as good as Nick Gill"
Please Corona give us a spell. I rate Salter as a future prospect but Gill has him covered in every facet of the game except kicking for goal.
Gill is a better mark, better aerobically and overall a more disciplined attitude to footy in general.

How was Gill going at the same age though? Was on an AFL list but reaslistically was struggling, even at VFL level.

I assumed we are talking NOW and not in comparison with where each player was at say 20.
By the way Gill didnt struggle in the VFL.

Hmm I'm not sure that Gill didn't struggle in the VFL. When North signed him he was playing full back in the Port Melbourne VFL Reserves team - I would say that was stuggling a little.

I would also call that being played out of position...

Maybe Crows are playing him out of position up fwd.
He's got good hands,he's mobile,good agility but can't kick.
Port Melb had it right, thats why they obviously played him back instead of fwd.
I don't think out of position.

Can't kick?
What do you call the action where you drop the ball & connect with your foot?
He might be inaccurate, but he can kick...

I reckon Gilly's kicking woes are overplayed ... Fair enough he has the odd clanger, no question, and confidence probably plays a big part, but I've also seen him roost some tidy goals and hit up leading targets ... I know we're going off track here (apologies), but the bloke provides a genuine aerial target and also plays small, dominant in the SANFL and more than handy at AFL level ... Let's not forget that there aren't too many Jonathon Browns or Wayne Careys running around out there.

Gill's field kicking is alright, but his kicking for goal is terrible. Possibly the worst I've ever seen from a forward line player. He is good value though and I'd have him in the Crows working outside 50 and occasionally drifting forward to take a big grab (and then handpassing to someone who can kick straight).

Salter has the potential to be a much better footballer than Gill.
