Within a club all players on the senior list undertake the same workload.

Therefore differences in payments are based on ability, the competition they play in and you value to the club. If you play league you are considered of more value to your club on that afternoon in comparison to a reserves player, so you get paid more.

Some players will leave for more cash/opportunity while some won't.

Increasing the pay of reserves players won't change that - the character of the individual will determine how long they will stick it out to get a shot at league footy.

smac, there also comes a point where it's costing you money to play reserves (club functions & attire, physio, petrol, insurance etc), yet your required to commit as a semi-professional, somethings got to give.
My suggestion's not perfect, but it recognises the difference in class between the 2 grades, yet rewards those who put in equal hard yards- I'm suggesting it's got to be better than the current system (especially when $50 per reserves game was the standard x number of years ago..)

Not that I was any great shakes as a footballer, but when I was running around at Centrals money was not my objective. Far from it (and I was an impoverished Uni student). Furthering my football was the reason I was there.

Low cash in the reserves helps sort the wheat from the chaff to an extent as well.

I think some increase is warranted, $50 is a bit low (not even a weeks worth of fuel for most footballers) but I wouldn't like to see it go over $100 per game.

Especially for clubs like Centrals and South whose grounds are so far away, I doubt that all their players would live in close proximity of the ground, let alone South playing Centrals at either ground, thats your match payments gone in petrol either way

Got a mate in the two's at North getting $80 per game. His first four match payments went to paying off his club suit.

Its a joke IMHO, poor kids lose out, even some league players do when you take into account at North they have to pay for their own B&F ticket (and partners), own Gala Dinner ticket (and partners), suit, petrol, medical appointments outside of training, etc, etc.

Suprised so many still are wanting to play League Footy, especially those that get delisted from the AFL, lot better and bigger money to be made in some country areas and with the country hospitality they wouldnt even have to buy a drink :D

Strange that, other clubs don't charge for club uniform, meals, medical and club functions.
Even the players were given money more than their game money to spend in town after the GF.

Some clubs pay the $75 per game but also give alot more to the players.

Just goes to show that some clubs do look after their players well. :D

That's a shame.

North are doing alot better than a few years ago. I was a trainer there and when we had home games the ladys aways made us sandwiches and gave us a small bottle of soft drink at the end of the games, the head trainer was also a great cook and brought birthday cakes in for the players and also provided cookies during the year. The club had no money and was at the bottom of the ladder. Everything was done the cheapest way.

After their current turn around it won't take much until they are back on their feet, and maybe that is a way they are insuring they aren't in the position they were in before.

Do they still use bricks in the weights room??
