There's no reason for the game to be on Sunday given the fact the AFL is finished the week before and it would also give all clubs supporters to get back to their respective clubs and celebrate or comiserate whatever it be without any concern of having to work the next day.

The reason I think it was moved to Sunday in the first place was because of the one sided Grand Finals that went before it - i.e. the Preliminary was on Sunday, the Grand Final on the Saturday. 1993 was the last Saturday Grand Final. But surely it can't be hard to make the Prelminary on the Friday Night, and the Grand Final on the Saturday?

If that's the reason for a Sunday game it hasn't really worked has it? Whatever day its on it should be earlier - Football Park starts to get pretty cold at 6.00pm

Between 1987 and 1993 there was a 6 day break between Preliminary and Grand Final Day. Except for 1990, when the SANFL pushed back the Grand Final one day to Sunday because of the AFL Qualifying Final Draw.

Incidently, 1990 was the only year between 87 and 93 the team that won the 2nd Semi lost the Grand Final.

The winners of the Grand Final in the other years during that period won by 82, 29, 94, 75, 56 and 73 points.

Think you could go further than that Spelly. From memory - 84 Sun to Sun, and PF winner won GF; 85 Sun to Sat, PF winner lost GF; 86, Sat to Sat and PF winner won GF

And the three years before 84 all were 6 days and the PF winner lost the GF.
