Not so sure about that - has no outstanding features

Actually IMHO he was a better footballer after the under 18 champs than before.
I think you are being a bit harsh on the kid he was given certain different jobs to do some he was suited for like in the forward line and others he was not.

And some of the guys that get drafted he would be 100 times better just look at Jericho at norwood as an example!!

Sam played in a winning grand final at age 16
that makes him 17 this year
next year 18 with 3 years of sanfl experience playing against men
not a bad resume!

Sam is a genuine footballer. If the big league calls he'll make it because he has a footy brain. Sure he's not super athletic, but I reckon this season he has actually increased his speed over the ground. Shows some good toe chasing and his tackling and his workrate is second to none.

some of you people dont know the facts.

Paul Stewart played quite a few games early this year and was found wanting, kept running himself into trouble. He got injured then spent the rest of the season in the reserves where he played pretty well and was close to re-gaining a league game late

Sam Fairclough has already turned 18.
He has good pace and is a great tackler. Sometimes his kicking lets him down but he was one of our best players in the finals.
Did you realise that he started the year in the back pocket, then after the under 18 champs rotated through the midfield and half forward with the likes of Lomas, Cooper etc. There were games where he didnt have much game time. He has still had a good year and is a chance to get drafted.
Petrenko had some inury problems early in the year, had a good under 18 champs, then fought his way into the league side. Is still improving and may well get drafted because of his pace and chasing / tackling ability. You cant always just play a young kid. They have to be fit and conditioned and ready to take the challenge

A bit worried by the talk of Steven Hall Going to coach Henley. Hope all the players dont leave and go play with him. On this site such players of mention are Passador, inkster no way can we affort to lose these guys.
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

Glad I am not the only one who thinks Sam had a big lift in form after the under 18's this year.

Agree re Fairclough. Had an excellent year and was better once moved into the midfield when he got back from U/18 champs. As for Petrenko, he was still in the best players in the reserves early in the year. I just think the team missed out on what could have been a wildcard come finals because he was not given experience earlier. And back pocket is/was a waste...

I feel the club have had a good season considering the injuries and departures...

We need to recruit a ruckman. Lindsay probably only has 1 more season in him
There was a lack of depth in midfield
McKenzie should be captain.... he leads by example and is one of the best players outside the AFL

Has the captaincy put too much pressure on cicca. He certainly didn't have the season we've become acustomed to. I'm hoping he can step up again next season. We need to see the cicca of old come to play next season. Agreed that Macca is a born leader even after an injury interupted season played some stellar games.
