He was born in the territory so maybe, looks like he may have a bit of asian blood in him ??

Cheers, thanks for the info that he was born in the territory.
Ever since I found out I was of aboriginal descent I'm always keen to learn if others are or not, I'm not sure why though.
I always get a special sense of pride when others of aboriginal descent do well, probably not something I could accurately describe with words.

Mate, thank you so much for that link, that's an awesome article.
That's one of the best footy related articles I've ever read, so well researched and interesting.
There's a good chance he'd be related to Josh Cubillo the North defender too reading that.
So proud of Stokesy. :D

Well done Stokesy. To come back after that injury, and then have 9 possies in second quarter was a great effort.

To look at him, you'd think he would be a flashy half-forward flanker coming in and out of the game. In reality is a great team player. Was always pressuring and smothering opposition defence wehn he was at the Eagles. Now his cameo roles complemented Geelong side nicely, but always with the team goal in mind. Not the biggest body, but yesterday put it on the line and showed some of the bigger Port players how to do it.

Talking Grand finals only, (as you were) so sadly Darcy + West don't count.

Also talking "home grown", not mini-drafts, pretty sure Matt Connell was drafted from teh Weagles wasn't he?

I was not aware that Keating was a South Australian product? (Not saying he wasn't, i just don't know the answer)

If he was i'll give you 5 and a half, if not call it a 5 all draw! :D
He's still my hero even if he is a little bit crap.

Yep Keating was definately a S.A. product, firstly with Norwood, then moved onto the Panthers I think it was. and you are certainly right re Matty Connell, definately from the West (Australia that is) and not certain about Chad Rintoul, wasn't he an interstater as well :)

Well done Stokesy! He was everyone's favourite player at the Eagles and he's performed so well this year at Geelong and played a great game yesterday and in the Prelim.

I think he's from Southport like his little brother Clarke (Lions). I think he came to South went to Norwood then was picked up in the pre-season draft in 1997. Maybe one of our Norwood cultists might be able to help with an answer.

Had a great year and I agree he’s more than just a fringe player. Great small forward also quite capable of playing in the midfield. Great footy smarts!

Well done Stokes!

his mother is aboriginal
his dad use to coach Palmerston magpies in NTFL and is a top bloke
some in that team he coached was
Trent Hentshell
Jarrad Brennan
Mathew Whelan
when Matty played with the Eagle here he suffered from shin splints that restricted his running and it was for that reason he was deemed too slow for the AFL but once he got over that condition Geelong took the punt and now he is a premiership player
I once asked Ronnie Burns if he (Matty) could make it in the AFL and he said he was too slow for it and he said Hayden Skipworth would be a better proposition
well done matty

Heard the tail end of a discussion on 5AA which seemed to be speculating that Stokes might need a knee recon - got the magic injection so he could play out the GF

Anyone heard anything on this ???
