How do you think they would have gone against that team if they didn't play the week before?

You will obviously never know the answer

BUT

Its a general consensous in the AFL that teams tend to struggle after travelling one of the longer trips ala Melbourne to Perth or Brisbane etc etc, they are professional football sides with much greater recovery facilites, technology etc etc than the state league counter parts.

Imho the travel wouldnt have helped their cause!

What will be interesting is to see if the Foxtel Comp does around next year what the clubs who knocked the comp back this year will do.

At this stage West look like the only club out of them North and Port who will earn the right to be in the comp next year via their top 3 SANFL position.

what would happen if north or port won the foxtel cup this year & didn't finish top 3 (as it looks like) would they get a 'wildcard' entry ?

will be intersting to see where they go with it, imho they would deserve the right to play in the following years comp.

imho would be a good way to create credibility and establish its own history ala back to winners, reigning foxtel cup premiers etc etc.

realistically there are a few teams in there who are miles below being competitive so an extra spot to one of the SANFL, VFL or WAFL would only make the comp stronger.

Best way would be 2 x 8 team divisions

Division 1: SANFL (3 teams), WAFL (2 teams), VFL (2 teams)
Division 2: TSL (3 teams), AFLNSW (2 teams), NEAFL (3 teams)

Centrals, Norwood or the Eagles would be pretty hypocritical if they chose to be involved next year.

I like this comp. Seems like it will be just a one year thing with the 9 AFL games next year but would be good if they/the AFL could keep something like this going.

I would drop the 3rd team from SA as not to upset the Vics ;) and make that spot open to last year's champion, the state spot then goes to the next in line from there.

Guys, this is the topic for ON field discussion, if you wish to discuss the possible make up of next years comp use the OFF field topic.
Cheers.

Maggies supporters how did Judd Robson go in this game?

It is interesting he played as he was playing Div 1 for Phos only a month ago.

Claremont have been up and down since the cup match against Clarence.

Lost to West Perth by 4pt. straight kicking would have won the game 11.10 (76) - 12.8 (80)
Came home strong in the last quarter. Flogged Perth the following week then lost to East Fremantle by 4 goals. Have been up for a long time a little slump was expected but will be there when it counts. Very hungry for a Premiership have not won one since 1996.

This is the wierd one ... am I wrong or is Metricon Stadium the redeveloped Gold Coast Ground at Carrara
(Gold Coast Suns are playing North Melbourne at this ground that night)

Having a WA team and a Vic team play on the Gold Coast ... great for Claremont who would have had a Tasmanian trip now a Queensland Trip so far.
