This weekend actually bucked the trend with some reasonable figures, but yeah, still well down on previous years.

Sorry South, if I went to the right oval then it would have been 2,174. Will be there next week, at Noarlunga, right?

2014: vs North, 3868

Thanks Spelly. This is an excellent example as its the same day every year, perfect weather yesterday so no excuse there.

Last 12 years this game at Glenelg Oval has averaged 4,895...yesterday 3,409 30% drop

4 of the last 8 games have been against North average 4,402...yesterday 3,409 22% drop

If the powers that be in our clubs and the SANFL cannot see this trend then what hope do they have when it is deteriorating before our own eyes, when your business is going backwards like this on a weekly basis it is critical you pick this up and act early otherwise you cannot turn the bus around...are they doing anything?

So is it fair to say, with an average crowd in 2013 of 3016, that on a normal weekend (4 games) that 12064, and that to date in 2015 on a normal weekend (5 games) that 13195 people attend.

Ie, there are more games per round now, hence crowds are diluted across 5 games instead of 4, but the overall count is up - so while individual club counts are down, this is somewhat offset with an extra game (meaning less byes).

And throw into that the fact the Bays have finished bottom I the last two years so this years attendance couldn't be attributed to their lowly position before this game.

Under the old structure there were 90 games in a season, which is the same number now under the new structure. Obviously a lower average crowd figure per game will see an overall drop across the entire home and away season. I fail to see how this can be seen in anyway other than a negative/problem.

I'm not claiming it to be a problem or not, just looking at the numbers from a different angle.

Essentially a normal full round of SANFL games under the current model is 5 games, where it used to be 4, so on average more people attend a round of football now than used to. Of course this is largely because 25% more teams are involved in a given round in the current model than used to be, so the increase isn't proportional, but the numbers say this, even though individual game numbers are down.

25% more teams involved in a given round? Are you trying to say 5 games per weekend rather than 4? There is now an extra team out of the original 9, and the number of rounds has been reduced. You may be looking at it from a different angle, but what does it show?

Maybe you don't see it as a problem to begin with, but your "angle" does nothing to alleviate less crowds at games meaning less atmosphere less gate takings etc. If there is a bonus to having lower averages spread out amongst the same amount of games per year ,but having those games concentrated in less rounds please say what it is, otherwise it looks as though you're making a Clayton's point in favour of reserves sides in the SANFL.

Oh dear here we go again. Of course the fact that Glenelg's last home game, a 110 point loss and 30 goals kicked against, would have had absolutely no impact on the crowd. It's all because of the AFL. Oh, and which AFL based teams were in the comp in 2004 when we got a smaller crowd than on Monday? Seriously!

True and that sums up what Glenelg supporters and the supporters of other clubs think of the compromised slide and decline of the SANFL.

Time for the clubs CEO's as a collective united group to wrestle back control of our comp and try to keep the self serving AFL interests of the Commission out of the day to day, year to year running of it including 5 and 10 year plus planning.

As I said, our embarrassing and pathetic performance in our previous home game would have impacted on Monday's crowd. To suggest otherwise is to pretend that onfield performance does not impact on crowds which everyone knows is plain ridiculous. It was a good weekend for crowds in spite of some of the ridiculously gloomy predictions I saw on here, including predictions of 2k crowds for Sturt v Adelaide at Unley.

Reality is we were hit by an unusual burst of Winter weather early in the season right when crowds are generally at their maximum. Was only talking to someone tonight about Anzac eve at Glenelg; he has been going to that ground for about 45 years and reckons he has never seen rain that heavy, but I guess the weather did not impact crowds both there and at Adelaide Oval that night? That was all no AFL protest too? We now seem to be hitting a run of good weather for this time of year and what happens? Crowds start to edge up! But some on here want to ignore other factors that impact crowds to further their argument against the changes to the comp. I absolutely get that there are passionate views about the current set up and that's fine, but if we are going to have a logical discussion about crowds you cannot ignore factors such as weather and onfield performance that have always been major factors just because you might want to further a point.
