All I am saying is that its a bit hypocritical. One player isnt allowed to stand out cos he plays in a "crap side" and thus stands out like a dogs anatomy... yet the other bloke can repel numerous attacks and take on Sturt on his own yet its different. Just looking for consistency from your posting.

I understand that when I saw South (in the flesh) they weren't crap and the last time I saw them was their first loss. Hence how I base my opinions.

I'll get even more controversial if you want....For mine Brown isn't even in the top 3 returned AFL players to the SANFL (those with 5-10 years on AFL list) in 2008, based on my SANFL viewing pleasure.....

That's right, I did know that, thanks mate...

Bloody hell, I'll change it now...

Maybe any Double Blue fans can confirm the state of origin for Andrew Whiteman, is he is Victorian then, no ?

Grew up a Woodville fan from the article about his 150th. A bit too young to be in my Woodville Cheer Squad I suspect.

From memory came through Sturt Juniors with Bridgewater in the Hills

Guess that makes him a South Aussie unless the state ends at the toll gate.

Yep those two and Grima hasn't had 5 years on an AFL list

As I said based on what I've seen (and I don't see opposition players all that often) Perrie (v North and South) has impressed me more than Brown. He wasn't good agaisnt us (but the delivery to him that day made it hard for him but Brown wasn't that impressive (to me) either in teh two games I've seen against us.

So Nickmane that's why I say I'm not always right because I base opinions on what I see. I don't see all the players all the time - hence why I can be (and often are  ) wrong in my assessments on players because I see them in different situations and scenarios than you, Joelie and every other poster on this site....

Phil,

My info is that very early on he came to Sturt from Norwood as a youngster and then got his first break in '98 etc etc. Not sure about pre-that in his footy career. Good luck to Sturt I say! He is definitely from SA. Not sure if he was actually born here, but, if not, he moved here at a young age. Before footy he played rugby. Hence the madness in him..

It is wonder Sporn is not in the squad - very much under the radar in the SANFL but geez he is good every week. I make the same case for Younie who may have been considered initially but has been in very good form the last 3 weeks and would be a good addition.

However, I feel both are too late for inclusion although D. Hart was at the game and must have been impressed by both as he would have been by Alleway, who not only booked himself CHF for this weeks game but must be considered the best big man in the SANFL now simply because of his versatility to play fwd, back and on the ball.

I think the 3 talls in SA's forward line will be Chambers, Perrie and Havelburg and there names are written down in ink.

Totally agree with you G and I think (albeit a slightly bias opinion) based on todays fine effort by the Doggies State Squad members, I'd say you can ink in the following Doggies players to be in the final game 22 for next weeks big clash against the Vics at the beautiful Adelaide Oval :

Daniel Havelberg - until moved late, clearly too good for Ahcee, was superb up forward with 9 goals, surely has to be on the interchange at least
Leigh Westhoff - a couple of fine individual efforts on the outer wing and has significantly improved his disposal this year, possible bench player
Daniel Schell - good today, is a proven performer at state level, versatility and consistancy surely see him start on the ground, definatley at CHB
James Gowans - late squad addition after suspended for first 3, superior skill, poise and class should see him find a midfield spot or on the bench
Andrew Hayes - just improves with every week, great leap and mark, provides plenty of run and drive, surely a definate starter off half back flank
Paul Thomas - despite turning the ball over a bit too much today, was VC for the last SA game, is good enough, on his day to be in the final 22

Ian Callinan - after not playing for the Dogs since round 3, the little goal sneak will unfortunatley miss the State Game due to his hammy issues

I think the performance of these players today, only a week out from the game, couldn't have had better timing and you would assume Darryl would have been at Alberton watching today. Really hope the 6 out of the 7 blokes listed above get a game, they all deserve one for sure...

Well, here's an opinion based on statistics (which, I appreciate, don't tell the whole story, but do tell us something.)
Nathan Brown has had more kicks (156) this season than any other player in the State squad.
He's taken more marks this season (81) than any other player in the State squad.
He's had more disposals (216) than all but two players in the State squad.
I think he should have at least made the squad.

Hey State Footy Fans,

Very interesting to read in todays advertiser the changes, or ommissions Darryl Hart has made to his State Squad. He has now cut it back to 24 players after Ian Callinan and Mark Mackenzie were officially ruled out through injury and the selectors decided to "drop" Centrals youngster Leigh Westhoff, Port's young star Steve Summerton, Glenelg ruckman Trevor Cranston and South pair Jason Torney and Josh Thewlis. Certainly a few suprises there...

First of all, I though that Cranston has been to the best ruckman in the comp to date, closely followed by Brad Dabrowski (no discrespect to the big men, but it's probably been the least talented rucking brigade in the SANFL for many years) and honestly thought that Trevor would start and then a toss up between Parry and Dabrowski. I would have left Parry out, based on form out of the 3 and had Brad coming off the bench. Suprisingly Big Trev now misses out all together and it looks like Brad will probably start, having Craig Parry his back up. Interesting ?

I'm not too suprised with Westy and Summerton (although I'm dissapointed for Leigh) as there seems to be plenty of rovers or onballers who are versatile enough to play on the wing. I must admit, I did think Josh Thewlis would not make the final cut but I'm really suprised they've left in form and AFL experienced Jason Torney out of the sqaud already. The paper mentioned that with their recent performances, newly added squad members James Gowans and Leigh Treeby look likely to keep a spot in the final 22 so with 2 to drop out of the now 24 man squad, I think that it might be Sturt pair, in youngster Nick Wark and former Rooster Tristian Gum that will be the last 2 cut and unfortunatley miss out.

Anywya, shpuld be a cracking game on Saturday regardless of who misses out on selection. Of course I'm a parocial South Aussie and I'm going to tip the home State in a close on, just though...

SA by 13 pts
Chambo to kick 5
Havelberg to kick 4
Clayton to have 35 possies
Daniel Schell to dominate at CHB
Charlie Sharples to show some magic
James Gowans to win Foss Williams Medal
