Agreed.
Biggest crowd i've seen @ the Bay for many years.

It's hard to see, at the game I thought it was a fair bump but in replay Thommo was out before he hit the ground which would lead you to think that Douglas got him high. Just as he makes contact I think Thommo turns his head a little towards Dougie and that he's already crouching down a little he gets a bump to the top of the head. Unfortunate high contact, a free kick at most but pretty hard for the umpire to pick up. Great for the Crows to see Douglas playing like that, deserves a game. I'd be interested in an objective opinion on the umpiring from a Bay's fan. Any takers?

The Bays player was Backwell.

Sorry meant Backwell, had beers getting old.

Didn't see Howard's so can't comment but Backwells bump doesn't deserve suspension.

Just had a quick look at the game on the TV and compared it to my DVD of the North v Glenelg game, definately a couple of hundred more at the North game last year comparing the crowds side by side on my dual screens both on the outer and on the grandstand side.
With the Bays getting their best crowd for the year on a Saturday can we safely assume their experiment of a lot of games on Sundays has failed and they'll give up on it? Hope so, the numbers don't lie.

Only difference was the bloke Howard bumped had time to brace himself for the impact unlike the Sturt bloke hence why the player Howard bumped got straight back up after hip and shoulder contact.
I don't think either should get games but the precedent has been set .
Consistencey is all Im keen for.

Completely different bumps. Howard charged the Central player who had his head over the ball. Backwell hit the Sturt player who was running in full flight. Backwell's was a fair hip and shoulder. Howard's was not.

Thanks for the footage Rushby, nice to see a bit of SANFL on the same day as the game.
Looks to be a fairly honest hit. Nothing in it, just the speed was brutal, but that's just footy.

Nothing in the bump, it was fair IMO.

Sturt tried their best to "get even" with mouse throughout the day but only really ended up gibing away free kicks in the process.

Haha, another excellent display of doing ****all when it's needed the most. Still great at shooing kids off the oval though, and stamping their authority in less hostile situations.

Chambers only 5 goals off of 100 would have some bit of bearing on the figure there?

Was right next to this scuffle and went scattering for safer ground (I mean next to it, less than 2m). Welso are a disgrace. The nearest one was watching the footy FFS you are not paid to watch football you are paid to watch yobbo's starting trouble you dimwits

its time one is stationed outside each beer dispensing structure to keep an eye on this sort of shite. Who gives a flying fork about the goal umpires safety to walk to the middle of the ground

The alleged bays fan open his yap once too much and got clocked and some mighty good ones too. needless to say he didn't say anything for the rest of the day. the others were thrown out and the poor old canteen ladies were taken for heart checkups as they nearly ended up in there.

That security guard is supposed to watch the crowd from that area as well. Not just stand in front of people and watch the game (which is what one did to my father, stood right in front of him)

bays too good. knew it was going to happen.

mouse's bump was ok, just a little shoulder contact to the head but nothing in it, no malice.

i hope ppl dont get all upset about it and start comparing with other incidents.

well done chambo on the 100, too bad it was in a losing game.

the bays will certainly make it past the 1st week of the finals regardless who they play. certainly in fine form.

come on sturt, bounce back, get fit and have a good hard think about if you want to play proper finals footy!!!!!!! 8) :?

Great atmosphere yesterday, terrific to see a big crowd there.
Nothing in the Thommo bump, he turned blind & went full pace into it - no chance to brace himself. Just one of those things I thought.
Great to see Chambers get the Ton.
I hope Glenelg can carry their form into September, and Sturt can find theirs, It will be good to see another team do some damage in the finals and put a different name on the trophy !!
Well done Bays, playing the best you have in years .

We had planned to ring up Rushby and sing Tigerland but we thought it inappropriate seeing as Richmond lost today and its their song so we just got pissed instead.

The entire crowd at WOODVILLE erupted into cheers and clapping when it was announced over the loud speaker that the bays were 5 goals up.

Prophet - huh? LEH got it wrong straight up... he reckoned Port were going to roll us a couple of weeks ago...

But we have lots of worries at the wrong end of the season. Great crowd and atmosphere at the Bay yesterday, took me back to the good ol days when SANFL was king.

Bays were way too good yesterday, first to the ball, in numbers, and much harder. For the second week in a row the scoreboard flattered us. Losing Gregory and Thomson to bad injuries did not help matters, but that's footy. Agree with you Wedgie, all those a***clowns running on the oval when Chambo landed the ton need to have a good look at themselves and give themselves an uppercut... including Soda!!!!

Agreed, as found by the tribunal Howard didn't make any contact to the head where Backwell's did.
Howard's didn't cause any injury as it made only contact with the upper arm where Backwell's caused a concussion through contact made to the head. Players on the ground saw there was nothing in Howard's bump hence no remonstration and why the Central player could get straight back up, players on the ground saw there was something in Backwell's bump hence the remonstration and why the Sturt player couldn't get up and hade to be stretchered off to hospital.
Agreed Aerie, completely different.

Nothing in it IMO. What I found interesting was the remonstrating bit...took Sturt a few minutes to fire up at Mousey. If it was a dirty hit surely they would've fired up straight away...

Ohh yeah...well done Bays. Good game, hard at it and great crowd...Snouts Hill was excellent.
