I have to admit to being somewhat surprised that the Parklands lobby group had the power to actually have the Clipsal grandstand project stopped. Apparently the same group wants the railyards returned to parklands, so it could well be that neither a sports stadium nor a hospital ends up on the railyard site!

Thanks for that info' Hondo.
I have heard here and there things about Vic' race course. No one ever goes into detail though because everyone that's interested knows all about it already. Except me!
I gather that the old grandstand at Vic was knocked down sometime in the not so distant past and now there's a debate about what to do about it?
So while not being up to scratch on the Vic Grandstand/Racecourse debate the rest of the stuff I read in that Liberal Policy seems fair enough. Parklands should be there for everyone. People who live in the country take open spaces for granted and one of the things I love about Adelaide is that the open spaces are combined with city living.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Me too - I much prefer Adelaide as a city to get around in, and the Park Lands are great. The concern is that once you start chopping off bits you may gradually lose the lot.
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

They want to re-develop the RAH instead of build a new hospital - leaving the new site free for the new Sporting stadium. Altho even his own documents acknowledge the problems of SANFL ownership and the cost. He admits the SANFL would need to have practical ownership and that it's main use must be for AFL. Yet, neither the SANFL or AFL want any part of it so it's not rocket science ( :D ) to work out where this idea will end up.

It's part of Hamilton-Smith's "Master Plan for Adelaide" ..... note it does not save the park-lands, these are earmarked for a range of other new projects so I doubt you will approve

Hamilton-Smith has no f***ing idea when it comes to renovating a building especially a hospital one of the most complicated going around. the RAH has had so many alterations and additions that you can only polish a turd so much and still have it the same. Better off scraping the whole lot as a hospital and starting afresh.

The libs are only proposing this idea because they feel it could win them an election and be the heroes fixing everything. There is nothing wrong with Footy Park as a stadium, sure it is needs a face lift and located in an awkward location. But with some careful planning and some decent transport services it would be ok.

Give the 100 mil to the hospitals, i know friends who have tossed away their Cows and Power memberships the game is gradually being sanitised and will end up being called field basketball patronage will decrease and their will be no need for a new stadium, footy park will be turned into a soccer stadium or a cess pit oh sorry it already is and adelaide oval will be the home of real football SANFL.
