Bzzt guess again

Do a search of salary cap threads (salary cap in title on SANFL board) and you'll find nine started by North supporters, three by centrals supporters, three by Glenelg supporters, two by Sturt, two by West and one by south (assuming I've all posters teams right)....

Seems like north supporters are the ones most preoccupied with the cap.....

I endorse creative accounting as long as it's within the parameters of the law as set down by appropriate channels.

Earlier in the thread, it was mentioned Centrals got pinged a while ago ?. Can anyone tell me when and what they were caught doing. I can vaguely remember something but can't remember any details.

Also, without salary caps I'm not sure too many clubs would suddenly start spending big because they couldn't rely on their current incomes supporting an extra commitment of $100k (or whatever) per year. Squeeze the sponsors a bit more maybe but its a quick way to dig a big hole for yourselves and would start a price war with the players.

Centrals provided a DVD of the 2000 GF to all of the players. This was later ruled as part of the salary cap (against advice that Centrals had previously received) and put them over the cap. They were fined $5,000 as a result.

And Centrals have never made the same mistake again....

They now use a third party not connected (or traceable) to the club for extra payments....

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I'd be saying the same thing if my club was being accused of being salary cap cheats. Doesn't mean your club isn't one of those clubs working outside the rules a tad. Just means you're trying to divert the attention somewhat.

So can anyone out there honestly say that if they were a CEO of a SANFL club they would not ask themselves the question " What can I do to get benefits to my players within the current rules?" and then go on to ask "What can I do outside the rules and what is the risk of being caught and the consequences of taking that risk?"

I'd suggest that anyone that hasn't pondered that question is not up with the game or managing a broke club. And I am not suggesting that my team does this as I would'nt know ( and don't want to know).
We used to be good :-(

also wrong, the players received a TV and DVD Player not simply a DVD of the game, they were crap anyway poor old Steiny exchanged his about three times, I would wager none of them are still operational.
