na.. with 5 mins TO GO in second qtr. Guilhaus kicks his first league goal. Everyone very happy with themselves.

Eagles kick 3 in 5 minutes and go into half time a side full of confidence and hope. (although in saying that the decision to pay a FAD against Willoughby in the middle of the ground to spark it was puzzling. Very very puzzling. In the side as Eags player was in kicking motion. terrible).

Joelie, you are a dreamer.
you say Backwell would have won you the game?.....ifs and buts mate
you think Glenelg lost the game

you talk about Willoughbys free not being paid....what about the trip on Petrenko in the last quarter, that one umpire "out of his area" later admited he saw and didnt pay...Glenelg get a cheap goal.

show some respect..the Eagles wanted it more..were more desperate and fought it out better.

Look out if we make the finals....you guys will be shivering in your boots if u have to play us on Adelaide oval

"Look out if we make the finals....you guys will be shivering in your boots if u have to play us on Adelaide oval"..

There's the Ifs and Buts mate. And unfortunately for you it looks very much like a "IF". Glenelgs consistency and player management has put it in a positon to definitely play finals. Glenelg definitely did lose the game. At 7.5 to 2.5... and from what I read here Eags supporters going home.... I'd say they like all of us (inc Glenelg players) thought it was in the bag.
Eags are an up and down side who I'd personally love to play in the finals with Mouse as an "IN"..

I did pay respect. I mentioned the intensity and the "wanting it more". Glenelg had far more possesion, smashed the Eags with more inside 50's.... just lacked polish going forward with poor execution. They were lairising at times.

The free "sparked" a 3 goal run on. Petrenko's did not.

I thought McKenzie was the standout for four quarters...scary to think he's only 25...

Glenelg in 2008 look very much like Sturt of 2007. A great start but fading towards the end of minor round.

Perhaps they have upped the training over the last month or so and are at a bit of a flat spot?

That's part of the scenario at hand I think Booney...Ben Kane indicated on the SANFL show on Sunday Night that the training had been increased and intensified leading into the finals, so the proof will be in the pudding in the next few weeks as to its effectiveness I suppose.

What you have written has some merit joelie .
What may have helped that game greatly would have been umpiring that favoured neither team. One umpire seemed to be in love with Glenelg .While the other two while not favouring either team, were puzzling on the in the back rule but at least they did it to both teams.I have no problem with umpires being Crap all day just be crap to both teams .

Yep as I wrote Glenelg sure did look pretty running with the ball and handballing through the centre .But when put under pressure they certainly fell like a pack of cards .Or did they think they had the game won and just stopped trying not a good sign for a team already set for the finals .
And yep the Eagles need 2 more miracles to get into the finals .
Who knows what will happen if the Eagles make it look for another senior Eagle to be back in that legend of the club Cica .

Frees in front of goals are great but when your backmen do not stand the mark with in range guys like Groecke will kick a bag full .
Something to ponder come finals time .

Since when did more possessions count for anything? The Eagles have never been a high possession side. Even at their best they were down the bottom of the "possession ladder". Teams like Norwood always used to have the most possessions but were mainly down the bottom.

Anyway, go Glenelg for the next two weeks. Hopefully you decide to win instead of lose.

Spot on, Aerie. At least in this decade, we are always seen with a low amount of handballs.

Perhaps that's why too, that no-one gave Jade Sheedy votes in the Advertiser, or the Football Budget a few weeks ago when he got 41 disposals. It's what you do with them that counts.

5 times during 2006 we had less disposals in a winning team:
Round 3 - 290 vs Norwood 355 (65 less), 2 point win
Round 6 - 305 vs Sturt 315 (10 less), 71 point win
Round 10 - 305 vs South 380 (75 less), 3 point win
Round 11 - 277 vs Glenelg 333 (56 less), 12 point win
Round 20 - 323 vs Norwood 343 (20 less), 40 point win

I'd be one of a long queue wanting to stick it up North...but I normally reserve my bashing for when the Bays actually beat North...not when every other side beats North.

That is a good point Aerie and yes it isn't the be all and end all, my point in bringing it up is that it does indicate a degree of workrate and an ability to win possession of teh ball. It can be wasted and meaningless but you can't win footy games without the pill.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

And the drawn match?
Round 23 - 247 vs Glenelg 301 (54 less), draw

I agree completely re the umpiring. Early on I commented that everything that was 50/50 or was iffy went our way. The second I also thought we had the better of it... but then it definitely turned. So all in all... it was really very very poor.

Glenelg did fold under pressure. They also did not like the real hassling in the forward line. Our Forwards bar Duldig were bumped off it, went to ground after contests and let slip basic tackles. The intensity and workrate wasd horrid up forward.
Our midfield I thought was dominant. Our clearances also. Just poor forward pressure.

I still think Glenelg is very much in the Eagles mould when Mikan coached us.I may be proven wrong but does he have what it takes to coach a team all the way to the flag .With us he got us to fifth I think .
Will mikan take glenelg all the way.
