Members Facilities

I would like to know from members of other clubs whether the other SANFL clubs have members only areas in their clubrooms and what affects they have/have not on their membership experience.

Mrs Spirit and I had dinner at the club last night and had a good look at the plans.
I have never made any secret of my beliefs in this matter so it will come as no shock to you that I am bitterly disappointed with them. Not so much with what is in the plans as what has been negelected.
The plans for over the changerooms look practical and are long overdue, especially if the grandstand is built. The new changes to the entertainment area look impressive and will create a facility that will be unequalled in the south.
My big problem is that there is still no "Members" area, where you can feel that you are part of the history and culture of the club. It would tear me apart not to renew my membership so that will still happen. But looking at the situation objectively, I could buy a season ticket, go to the footy and still have access to the same facilities as every other citizen. There is nothing apart from my own love of the club for over 40 years, to make me as a member feel "Special" or part of the club.
Some people will say that should be enough, but I still remember the club atmosphere at St. Mary's and miss it. I also wonder if the lack of it at Noarlunga has a detrimental effect on membership numbers.

also when you have pokies which is an activity for the public the public must be entitled to enter, i have no problemspeople coming 'off the street' to play at glenelg i'm no more important than anyone else & the revenue all goes to the club doesn't it ?

on the other hand if you kept them out you wouldn't of had the salary cap breaches as you wouldn't have had the same amount of money coming in to do break the cap

Basically the Champs function hall, which is upstairs. But it can be hired out to non-members.

What I'm getting at is being able to sit in a reasonably quiet area having a Diet Coke with people with my own passion for the club, without some drunk pointing to a picture of Jimmy Deane and asking "Who's he supposed to be?"

In short - a Members Lounge.

I presume you mean on match days Spirit? you surely couldnt expect them to have a seperate area during the week as no one would be in there...on match days yes maybe you have a point....have you raised it with the club, knowing Phil H Im sure you would get a reply....do you get any discounts int he club for being a member? that might be an angle the clubs could take also

My concern is more with the "Community" aspect rather than on match days. Apart from most of last year when I was slightly incapacitated, I usually watch the game from the same Grandstand seat I've had for several years, surrounded by the same crusty old supporters.

My problem is that I think since the introduction of the Pokies (A neccessary evil these days to finance clubs that lost income and support to the AWFL) the "Club" has gone out of footy and been replaced by the Dollar.

Sad, but I'm gradually coming to accept it.

Not in favour of members only areas like Westies and Central Districts (night games) were other supporters can't mingles with other team supporters.
All people's money welcome at Challenge Oval. (even Punky's)

I have never had trouble getting in to the "members bar" at Richmond, not that I've tried that often. The barflies will open the door for anyone who appears to be unable to effect entry.

I've even crashed a Port Adelaide past players half-time function, decked out in black and gold. Got a few sideways glances but nobody seemed to care.

i somehow got into the past players & officials half-time 'show' you know like party pies,pasties,sausage rolls & cakes etc at noarluga a couple of years ago ( i obviously turned into the wrong section) but just as i realised what was going on, a former south player said 'its ok you can be in here as long as you buy a raffle ticket' free feed but i didn't win the raffle so while i put this up they had a speech & presentation for 'flip' anyone know who flip is ? as i couldn't work it out

obviously flip is a philip but i couldn't work it out & you've given me his surname & i still dont know him could you enlighten me please

ps the only flip wilson i know is a cop at gawler who is also a trotting trainer/driver
& with footballers (sanfl) the only wilson i can think of is ray (sturt) adrian & wilbur (central) & michael (now at port power)

so it maybe but it is not obvious to me after all he was/is from POOR OLD SOUTH
