Norwood to play games at Golden Grove?

Postby Wedgie » Wed Nov 09, 2005 6:02 pm

Heard a rumour on the grape vine today that Norwood are looking at moving into their new "heartland" and are looking at playing some games at Golden Grove down the track.
Anyone else heard anything similar?
Persaonlly I find it hard to believe but the person who told me is usually in the know and insisted it was going to happen.

Golden Grove oval is possibly one of the worst ovals i have ever been to, its at the bottom of a pit and just acts as a giant drain when it rains, the surface is painful when wet, full fo gravel and sand, no where near up top SANFL standard, and people thought Unley Oval was bad in 2004.

Im not sure if it would be the Golden Grove oval or one nearby or a new one, either way a lot of money would be pumped in before it happened well down the track, there seems to be some $$$ thrown at Norwood from the area for this project too.

No doubt the oval would have a lot of improvements made to host SANFL football, their ground isn't exactly weathered for league footy.. so it would need to be improved, and with extra money coming in, that would happen.

I'm not too sure about it from a Norwood fans perspective, i reckon you's would much rather continue on at Norwood Oval, but it could bring extra supporters to games from the GG area.

Half of the oval is bordered by hill.

The other half...well the wind would be worse than Noarlunga.

Is everyone aware of the brand spanking new oval on or near Gould Rd. ( The back road to Gawler from Golden Grove)
I haven't been on it but it looks a belter, surely a new oval would be up to standard?
Norwood have been doing a lot of work in and around the NEMJFA clubs this year.

Sounds like last year's news passed through a game of chinese whisper. The Legs have moved their junior sides out that way because 80% of the players come from there. I've heard absolutely nothing about the seniors moving from the Parade (and I see no reason why they should).

Maybe if they could organise a similar deal to what the Eagles are looking at in 2006 where they play all their home games at Woodville but 3 or 4 netrual games at Thebby?
Like the Eagles this could be a huge advantage for the legs virtually having 11 or 12 home games as opposed to 9.

I think it would be a good idea. The SANFL has to accommodate changing demographics and having a presence in or near the burgeoning Golden Grove area is a sensible move.

Night games at Norwood and the occasional Saturday arvo game at Golden Grove sounds good to me.

If Norwood were to leave their traditional home I think it would only be for a merger..? I am not suggesting that to be the case, far from it..! All SANFL supporters would hate that to happen, but the 8 team comp, with crowd attendances falling, one would think something may happen in the next few of years..?

Can I just re-iterate that I have heard nothing close to that Norwood will be leaving Norwood Oval, merely playing some games at Golden Grove.

maybe north and the dogs can merge so their players can stay at the one club instead of moving ;)
