if the club backs him for few years so he can develop the youngsters around the area with the odd recruit that will stick around i can see south being at least competitive in 3-5 years time however i can see the south hierachy not being patient enough but south do have a nucleus of a good team its the next 14 that they have to work on & some of those a getting league experience now
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Of course he "can" do it, yet there are other issues at the club that are directly affecting the success of the side. What we need is for someone like John Reid to take the Presidency at South and then take the sledgehammer to the current makeup of the club and put it together properly as it could be. Put the right people into all of the positions at South and we could well take the step forward. Clearly the issues are larger than just the coaching situation.

Yes Clay probably has in current circumstances.

If you know his story it is built around over coming adversity so don't count him out just yet.

Personally there has been SOOOO much change at South in recent years some time allocated to let someone settle in and have a decent go is probably the best strategy.

He could have had better support staff, an inexperienced coach with even more inexperienced assistants.

Without doubt the right choice and with Jason Torney to join him next year in the coaches box (if he doesn't decide to play on) i believe the club, although doing it tough at present, are on the right track through the development of our own juniors and continued building of relationships with the SFL & GSFL. The club is united and (at last) stable off ground success will follow.

In what way do SA build relationships with the SFL and the GSFL???

It all apears one way traffic?
When was the last time SA sent some lads out to the local comps for a training session or just networking?

I think he has the hardest, yet most rewarding, of just about all current coaching jobs (but not jobs in general).
He can prove his mettle, or fall by the wayside.

But it won't necessarily be in his results that he is/isn't proven. He needs to develop what he's got, and what's coming up, over several years. He needs a style that endears itself to success. And he needs to deliver simple, concise messages to his players.

I'd love to be in his shoes. Unlike at a club like Port, there is no pressure from anywhere, nor expectation. Alwyn Davey would make a nice return, though!

I think the guy that will end up having the hardest job is the one who will follow Roy Laird!

I don't think either the coach or the playing group have the ability to turn things around down there. I think it all boils down to crap administration. In the end a good bunch of loyal players will retire or get too frustrated and a coach is only as good as his playing group can be. When Chris Hall comes back to SA but wants nothing to do with his former club (especially given his best mate plays there) you know things are awry. And I just can't see it happening without the whole place being turned upside down by a guy like a John Reid. But if Cahill couldn't do it as a coach, surely it would take a complete replacement of the board with people willing to put up with a bit of pain to follow a vision and see it through. They messed up all those years ago when Greg Anderson was coach and they've stuffed it up constantly ever since.

i hope people are not feeling sorry for sambo
He has been back stabbing the last few coaches down there as much as any body
He also did apply for his current role
Maybe a case of his ego writing cheques that his performance cant match

Maybe that explains Pyman's pointed comment about a lack of game plan and structure (not sure of his exact words) on the ABC broadcast a couple of weeks ago...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Pfft, you have the easiest job getting to drink a decent beer every 2nd week.
Its the supporters of the other 8 clubs that do it really tough!

South will not win a premiership in our lifetime. The culture and the philosophies they are going by down there are disgusting. They are a real mess and a laughing stock of the SANFL
