Rd 1 2009 Central v Eagles @ Elizabeth

Postby bayman » Fri Mar 20, 2009 6:49 pm

the modern traditional rivals collide & you'd think even at this stage despite trial form (seen them they were definately 'experimenting') that playing at home will be enough to get them in a winning frame of mind

i'll tip central by 3-4 goals
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Yeah, it was Chris again...

He was there with Ian Callinan, Lee Spurr, Brayden O'Hara and assistant coach Gavin Chaplin checking out our round 1 opponents...

Its been a very long time BOP.The only good thing is Centrals are slow starters at this time of the year.
Mind you we need a miracle to win .someone to get the guys to kick straight at the goals would help.
But WWT are due for a win at the pondarosa ;)

Cue spelly for the official stats but I always beleived we had a fairly good record at the ponderosa. Maybe not the last couple of seasons but before then. Anything can happen in round 1. Westbrook in the league is a must though - his form in the past 2 reserves trials has been brilliant.

I didn't see either of the trials this week so what was Groecke like ???

A round 1 visit to the kennel is probably as good a time as any to go there as centrals aren't usually at full throttle then. Up to about 2004/5 we had a very good record at Eliz.
It's about time the eagles started off a season with a win and set the foundation for the rest of the season. We have been playing catch up for the last two seasons due to slow starts. No excuses this year as we finished 2008 early in not playing finals.

All time: Central 8 Eagles 10
But at one stage (up to 2001) it was: Central 2 Eagles 9
The only win at Elizabeth since then was in Round 3 2004, by 8 points.
Since 2003, the 6 winning games by the home side were by 58, 18, 18, 51, 10 and 17 points. Giving an average of 28.7.

I've done some research:

The Eagles won the last head to head battle between these clubs in round 13 (28th June 2008) at Woodville Oval by 84 points 18.14.122 to 5.8.38 before that the Dogs had won the previous 4 occasions incl 3 games at Hamra Homes and 1 at Thebarton Oval. From 2006 and beyond these combattants have faced each other on 9 occasions with Eagles winning 4 occasions incl 2006 Grand Final and Dogs 5 occasions. Biggest winning margins in these times are Eagles (84 pts) and Central (82 pts)

The winning margins from the past 2 games at Hamra Homes Oval are 17 and 10 points respectively. All of this points to another dour struggle this Sat night.

MMM today they were jumping to the surface brother.
Must admit this is the time of the year we can all stand and beat our own chests.
Silly season(centrals losing to west and eagles stopping the last two games) is over bring on round 1
And round one between two teams that begin the year slowly .
