Norwood recruiting

Postby redandblack » Mon Dec 22, 2008 11:46 am

You have to hand it to the Legs this year.

After recruiting Doyle, Trotter, Phillips and Davis last year, they've been able to afford 5 players off AFL lists, (Hughes, Lee, Campbell, Massie, Jericho), plus re-sign McGuinness.

They've lost nobody really expensive, so it's a very, very good effort.

...it's an incredibly good effort redandblack.... hopefully one that will be rewarded with more finals appearances.....but it does sound like the heirachy out at the Parade have taken a few lessons from Centrals on how to circumvent certain salary cap restrictions....

I think its common knowledge what might be about to occur and perhaps the reason for your post. Regardless it has been a good summer as far as recruting goes except for perhaps the loss of Cockshell and I don't think there was much the club could do about that, despite all the stories. I'm just happy we hopefully should have a competitive team.

You forgot Terlich from the Swans Rookie list who has signed on for 2009 ;)

I wonder how many of these new players were told about the financial woes at the Parade as well as the President about to jump ship?

Not really sure what his title was to be honest, he may have just been a board member.

Terlich is my new fave player - he and Doyle give me that Swans/Norwood connection. Now I just need Nic Fosdike to return and I'll have one of my faves of all time.

Add to that Jack Juniper from Glenelg and Nigel James a tall KPP from Tumby Bay and I think that just rounds up the lot for 2008

Congrats at Norwood for getting together a great list for 2009

Pity about Robbie De Jong and Adam Cockshell, I, along with many Norwood supporters wish them well in their selected new teams,
except when they play Norwood.

Cheers

We've just come out of the 'have a try day' years so we had a bit of room left in the cap.

Very good recruiting well done to the legs. Wish my club wouldn't worry so much about the salary cap and just recruit some bloody players

In all honesty though i don't think Norwood would have been using their maxium salary cap at the end of the 2006, 2007 season, so they would have had a fair bit of money to offer.

Either way good luck to them at least Norwood is being positive and trying to improve as a team and club, if some other clubs followed this lead the competition might be a tad closer.

We certainly could, CP.

Some anonymous clubs are so used to it that they just take it for granted or enjoy the prospect :)

I'm sure Norwood have managed to persuade the 8 or 9 ex-AFL players they've signed in 2 years to play within the cap rules.
