Great article in last Saturday's 'Age' about Westies and the effects of the drought on Riverland families.

R&B, saw that.

Great yarn. Really got down to the emotional nitty gritty. I know both of the lads mentioned too.
Those are issues I have been addressing in a small fashion at some level locally and through other networks.
I would love to talk to Andy Collins about it and his thoughts on the subject and what we can do.
If nothing else it will provide an awareness of two rural problems that are intrinisically linked - drought and depression.

I'm very passionate about this subject, having lost a mate last year.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Read this article when it came out (us Norwood supporters are all dedicated Fairfax subscribers) and meant to post the link then so well done rnb.

Congratulations to all at Westies involved in this, a fantastic initiative and proof positive that footy clubs at all levels are an important part of both their immediate communities and society as a whole.

The Advertiser should hang its head in shame that it's left to papers in Melbourne to cover these kinds of stories. I know this is a bit 'bigphil' but it needed to be said. :D

Well said topsy and i agree wholeheartedly. Interesting if the AFL, as Collins said, start looking in our own backyard and help these kids that may be lost to footy due to the comps/clubs closing because of the drought before we worry about Ireland and South Africa.

I was having the teensiest go at the media BP, you might remember having done that a bit before your nascent media career. :D

Yes, I figured that, I was just having some fun back with you...

Yes, I used to "complain" about the media when I was young and stupid, but it wasn't about what they weren't printing, more about the quality and basic mistakes in material they were releasing. Same but different I guess...

Yes it is a great idea.

I think we would be all lying if we said we didn't know one person who has/is suffered/suffering from depression :( .

I hope the SANFL schedule another SANFL Game or Games for the Riverland this year, I think that is one of the best ways that the Football Community can support the people in the Riverland in a practical way!

The AFL pre-season comp is set to have a match in the Riverland in 2009.

Any clues on the teams ? Or will it be the loser v the loser from the initial draw ?
