Sturt 3.4 4.13 9.16 13.18 (96)
Eagles 2.1 4.4 6.5 10.6 (66)

Firstly, well done to Sturt in winning your fourth Reserves premiership; it is the sign of a great amount of depth in your team to lose just the two matches.

What was different to last week, was that coming from behind again, each goal we kicked was answered by Sturt. We were able to get multiple goals only twice in the match - in the 2nd quarter and late in the last. Interestingly, I thought the most dominant quarter Sturt had was the 2nd quarter, yet it was our best quarter margin wise. A lot of chances were fritted away by Sturt from set shots, scoring 9 behinds in a row to go from 3.4 to 3.13.

But when Sturt got the radar right, the score went out to 8.13 to 5.5. Apart from the period of the 2nd quarter and the first half of the third, I thought we was able to match the intensity, but the skill level and decision making was generally with the Double Blues.

While of course it is disappointing to lose the Grand Final, I'm happy that we did not give up, as well as keeping Sturt to a margin that everyone thought would be more than double.

Sturt's poor kicking in the second quarter probably kept the Eagles in the contest for a lot longer than they should have been, but to their credit the Eagles never stopped trying. Sturt's class shone through in the second half, and I really liked the look of Trengove as a footballer.

Most astonishing stat from this game was that the umpires did not pay one holding the ball free kick for the whole game. I have never seen that in a match at this level before.

As opposed to last week, when holding the ball was paid frequently.

Well done Sturt Reserves 2008 premiers!!!
Enjoy the win lads, you have done the club proud!!!

Thank you Mighty Eagles and Spell Check. A true sign of character it is to congratulate the victor just after you have lost. I'm also glad to have read your views on the game as one team's fans usually catch things that the other does not.

Congratulations to Bratts and the Blues Twos on their 2008 Premiership . A well-deserved result for the standout reserves team for the year.

And well done to Adam Klun who played extremely well for the Eagles today in his last game before he returns to the Hills league in 2009.

Congrats to Luke and the Sturt boys on a pretty solid win today, clearly the best side in the Two's all year and as Spell Check said some great depth out at Unley at the moment.

As for the Eagles boys the regular suspects from the past 3 or 4 games; Adam Klun, Robert Fiacchi & Jonno Lee were probably the best. Jared Allmond, Ben Arbon, Pat Guiffreda and Damien Williamson also had solid games.
Taking into consideration the massive scoring difference between the 2 teams across the minor round matches..Sturt kicked 636 points more and had 543 less scored against them, the Eagles defence was going to be stretched and the forwards needed to make the most of every opportunity that came their way..... unfortunately the backine was stretched for height and the forwards just couldn't get any sort of momentum going.
If not for Sturt kicking 1.9 in the second quarter the game would probably have been over at half time, to the Eagle boys credit they kept plugging away and created some opportunities but just couldnt capitalise and certainaly paid the price for that by midway through the third quarter when Sturt found their kicking boots and rattled on 5 straight in pretty quick time.

Dissappointing way to end what has been a dissappointing season for the club, however to have made the GF from 7th or 8th spot at one point during the season and in the process end the seasons of a couple of teams who finished above them during the minor round was a great effort from Andrew and the boys, today just wasn't to be.
Trust the process.

Sorry to steal CD's thunder, but Couch had some good moments throughout. Showed real class to win the contested possession on the outer wing, pass further afield, then run past for the receive to slot a beauty from 45m out in the last term.

Congrats to Sturt, obviously the best team all year, and a bit physically stronger compared to some of the younger Eagles players. Proud of the Eagles lads though, they were gallant and never gave up. Fitzgerald last week matchwinner just couldn't get into the game. Good to see them stay on the field to pay repsect to Lindsay, Cooper and Colville in the motorcade.

Stats of free kicks inside the fifty-metre arc for each side would make interesting reading.

If Fuller is keen to keep recycling SANFL players, get on to Ryan Herring now.

It must be said of Andrew Rodgers the success of that team in two years has been very great.and not always having injured league players returning or under 18 state players .He has done a very good job .
Seeing the last seconds coach game plan looked shocking until he would get league players returning from injury .Just makes you think doesn't it .

And well done WWT Seconds on making the GF and putting in a very good effort .
