Just wondering what peoples thoughts are of Norwoods mid season recruit Tim Weatherald?

Not having watched Norwood closely I am unsure of how well he has gone in relation to his team mates, yet it does seem that Norwood were struggling early in the season yet are now hitting their straps fairly well and I wonder if Tim being in the side is one of the reasons why Nowood have had a lift in form in recent times?

One of the best recruits of the year for Norwood so far. For a player that was advised he no longer had a senior position at Sturt, he has knuckled down and worked really hard to make a point at Norwood. Wouldn't be too many games this year he wouldn't be in their top 6 on the day. Thought he was one of the best afield on Saturday, despite only 16 possessions. Time and again, his class at the stoppages in the wet shone through. Wouldn't think too many Norwood fans would be disappointed with that decision.

I must admit I wasn't overly impressed with the initial decision to recruit Tim, with a reasoning of "If he isn't good enough for Sturts 6-8 man midfield rotation (or even Back Pocket) how does bringing him in get us closer to the better teams" ... Not to mention the effect it could have had on those who had done pre-season together and were vying for that position in the league team.

Tim has been sensational for us, and has worked out better than I could ever have dreamed ... Not just because of the competitive edge he brings onfield, but also his off-field nature and attitude and it was very evident he came from a culture that harboured more success than ours when he arrived.

Still think he has limitations (foot disposal), but he certainly commands respect and has been a huge factor in why we've shown some better form at times.

Think he would be in with every chance at the B&F at the Parade despite missing some early games.

Timmy has certainly slowed down in recent years, but his commitment to the jumper, and his ability to lay some pretty crucial tackles means he is still a very handy league footballer. I enjoyed his interview post-game with Soders, and the follow-up banter "Sticks" Phillips brought to the broadcast when the ABC commentators interviewed Trevor Hill in the victorious Norwood rooms...

Timmy is obviously a very well liked and respected person in the footy community.

Okay, I was biased because I've known Tim for years, but I was delighted when Norwood offered him a role at the club. The one thing you can be certain of with Tim is a 100% honest effort, and that's all you can ask from anyone.

Clubwise, Tim is a very popular member of the club, has earned tremendous respect, and is having a very positive influence on the younger players at Norwood, which was pretty much the idea behind recruiting him.

The beauty part is, he has plenty of football left in him. Sometimes a change of environment can work wonders on a player and that is what appears to have happened with Tim.

If being told you are starting the season in the twos and need to earn a league spot based on performances is being "advised he no longer had a senior position at Sturt", then yes, that is what Tim was advised.

No one can doubt the impact he has had for Norwood this year, however.

In 1978 Sturt had a rover named Mick Nunan who fell out of favour with the Sturt coaching heirachy - he transferred to Norwood mid season and immediately made his presence felt in the Norwood side. As Norwood progressed through the finals in 1978, his finals experience and know-how gained from his highly successful career at Sturt made him a very valuable player to his new side. His inside knowledge of Rick Davies champion ruck skills and Sturt's centre square tactics was a vital ingredient of Norwood's success on Grand Final Day 1978. 30 years later another champion Sturt rover has transferred mid season to Norwood and was instrumental in Norwood's comprehensive victory on Saturday. As a Sturt fan I'm getting nervous. All I need is for Des Foster to make a comeback...

Well, as you know, Sturt didn't lose to anyone bar West in the minor round of that year, so that may calm the nerves a bit.

im glad he is doing well at norwood, he is a champion player and a top bloke, not much more you can ask for.

i however applaud rick macgowan for making the tough decision that will benefit the club from 2008 onwards.

its tough to let a class player go but with the depth we have, sometimes things just happen that way.

Funny you mention Nunan mate.

He allegedly had similar ideas to the late JO, they clashed and the rest is history.
