EAGLES LAND OF THE GIANTS

Postby mal » Sun Jun 08, 2008 12:38 pm

Why are the Eagles under achieving this year ?
I reckon the selectors might be at fault.
The tactic of picking big tall strong players might work in underage football games.
BUT
It is not working in the SANFL for them YET.
Too MANY talls in this team ?
Do they really need nearly half a team of these guys in the team?
Land of the Giants NO !
There are prob 2-3 too many in this team in my opinion.

Still too early to comment on the Eagles 2008 season.

The Fallen Eagle may still turn around and bite my bloody arm off.

A long way to go yet....

History suggests, never underestimate an EAGLE.

:Hangman:

It's only Money $$$ :)

What is happening to our SANFL guys...

TOO TOP HEAVY ?

DABROWSKI
GROCKE
HENTSCHELL
MCENTEE
MCKENZIE
PASSADOR
ROBERTS
SALTER
SCWHARZE

Were they the talls[if those 9 played] who played v NW ?

Is 6 talls or key position players enough in footy ?
2 RUCKS
FULL BACK
CENTRE HALF BACK
FULL FORWARD
CENTRE HALF FORWARD
maybe 7 if your FORWARD POCKET is as well ?

EG need more sMALs ?

I think so

BUT
This club is still capable of being a force

no their problem yesterday was extremely poor skill level and no brains when going into attack. bombing it into the forward line to the smallest bloke in your team (Craig Fitzgerald) is never going to work

I will repeat what I wrote in the other thread. but shorter
Players were Trained 5 nights a week Pre Season 2008
Recruiting has been almost nothing since 2006 .Most of this years Crop have returned home to either NSW or VIC.With Twomey the last to leave the club not confirmed yet.
Selection problems were mentioned above .In past weeks FOUR TALL FullFORWARDS Selected to play this week just 3 picked unless u included Mcentee.
So Tall forwards playing as Backmen or at least starting down back.
Small Forwards if we have any are used in the midfiled .small forwards once over ran the club now are almost extinct.
Wigman playing down back does not work .
And WWT Won games this year when they brought in 3 18 yo's.these are now playing for the state.

Game Plan A only works against Sturt
Game plan B only seen after halftime of round 1 almost worked not seen since.

Just a few problems down at oval ave .many players have left due to friction with the coach .
IMHO
WWT need a number 1 ruckman
WWT need small crumbing forwards
WWT need more midfielders the in and under type
WWT need key position back men

And I am still friggin pissed off at yesterday's game .Even the fishing this morning was crap !!!!!!!!

Tend to disagree with a couple of points Mickyj...

Yves Sibenaler and Jeremy Aufderheide are both very good Premiership defenders for Centrals and both started their careera as Full Forwards...

Adam Switala has mainly played as a wingman, but is now a consistant half back flanker...

Players, IF they are good enough can adapt to change to varying positions on the ground. Some work, some just aren't good enough, SIMPLE...

For mine the Eagles look gone. I now believe we won't make the finals and even if we did we would be merely making up the numbers. In recent games against CD and NA I saw plenty of promise only to fall away late in both games but the latest effort against NWD was just deplorable. Ronnie and the coaching staff need to make some changes.

My Eagles side would look something like this:

F: Ftzgerald, Passador, Schwarze
HF: Grocke, Hentschel, Rimmington
C: Jarrad, McKenzie, Treeby
HB: Fiacchi, McGregor, Salter
B: Guiffreda, McEntee, Petrenko

1R: Dabrowski, Powell, Fairclough
INT: Roberts, Pavlich, Geddes

He was always injured and when fit had to beat Passador Schwarze Macgregor Groecke etc into the side.
And before the seconds game against North was finished he was off with his upper leg wrapped and Iced .

A nice side EHL .
For mine Petrenko looked better on a wing .And should Lee be given a chance in ruck .Somehow when they come back from State duties you need to find room for the under 18's.who lifted the team when they played pre state game.

There is your answer Phil if they are good enough some of those who played league against NW were not good enough.
We are talking about a club that played 3 ruck men in two games on Saturday .And for mine its about time that young Lee was given a chance again in the seniors.
And do those Centrals players you mentioned kick with both feet for mine thats one big problem one eagle wingman has at present .And don't get me wrong when the team wins he is one of the best players but when we lose well enough said.
For mine the biggest single problem the club relied on under 18 players to get the team going and get their 3 wins. And when those players were taken for state duties the team fell down .
And that problem all goes back to recruiting no one recruited to fill the spot left by Pedler. The club should have been looking at least two years ago with an aging list it should have been a priority.
I think I have said enough otherwise there will be men in green blue and yellow coming to take me away
Bring in Lee and Couch next week !!!

LINDSAY IS A HUGE LOSS!!!

(Look back over my post, pre-season... We won't make the 5 & will miss Lindsay) 8)

Never a truer word was spoken

As for Fuller... I have NEVER been a fan, as those on this site will testify, told the players he was leaving @ end of 2006 regardless of result, then stayed.

Should have gone @ end of last year IMHO.

Having said that... Ronny's BEST quality as a coach IMHO is his ability to play kids & get the best out of them. His record in this regard is VERY good :D :prayer:

Well said Mickyj... re: Recruiting... =D> =D> =D>
FFS who was the IDIOT who recruited Biagi to the club???
Err... DOH !!! #-o

In terms of this season, We can still make the finals ONLY because North, Norwood & South are as INCONSISTANT as we are!!!
But I would like to see Ronny continue to 'blood' the kids.

The biggest problem with Ron playing the kids is when the state games come around we lose them for what 5 weeks. He brought in the kids we won 3 games on the trot and since then we have lost 3 games .

Recruiting needs to be looked at .Who does it ? How do WWT do it ?
Why aren't WWT chasing plyers in the 23 to 25 year range or to old to go to the afl .
There is a state game being shown tomorrow morning(Sat 14th june) on the Aurora Channel on FOX .Its between NSW and the VAFA .Did WWT have anyone at the game looking for recruits .Will anyone from WWT be watching the game on TV just in case there is a player in the rough .
I know the standard of the game will be way way below the SANFL but you never know.
I bet the answer will be why bother .My reason to watch it the club needs new recruits they will not all come from VFL or AFL .the club needs to grow .

Yes LEH WWT miss Big Red .The ruck division is so same right now.they need Lee to step up and be that knock ruckman that is missing.

And that ends my rant again
I have started to be called MR MEAN towards the eagles at home.
Any truth in the rumor my picture is hanging at Oval ave on the gates with most wanted attached to it and do not let in
