There is plenty more to this article, yet this first section sums up the point that I do want to address. Clearly Cornes does not name the said player, yet it can only be one of either Jason Torney or Clay Sampson. One the Captain of the club, the other the new coach of the club.

What concerns me greatly at this point is what is supposed to happen next?
Assuming the article is factual and I have no reason to belive that it isnt, we have a situation where either the current coach or the captain of the club has been actively involved in White-Anting Jack Cahill. The same player no doubt then no doubt expects loyalty from the playing group, something that he himself would not give to the coach of the club.

The question has been raised about will South win the wooden spoon? It is my feeling that the answer is yes and will be for several years as a direct result of the way that the playing group at South are being given the Green Light to go White-Ant whomever they like and can be assured that in doing so that members on the board will back them on it 100%. Somthing to be really proud of.....

It is the darkest period I have ever known as a South supporter/member (30 + years). I have always held my head up high win, lose or draw but now i have to say I am a little embarrassed to the events of the last few days to say the least.

This year membership is well down from 2007. Crowds are up (Cahill factor would have helped) but really were to from here? Who runs the football club? Members need to know answers! Once again players seem to have the final say or so it sounds. I was on the understanding that when Cahill was appointed, he had full reign and was going to call the shots. To sign an unexperienced coach until 2009 is a very scary thought....it is a worry. What happens if we dont win a game for the rest of the year? Will the new coach be white anted?

It has been a vicious cycle for many years at the SAFC and it really needs to stop. I was listening to the radio today and hearing callers ring in and thought we are not helping our club by any means with the publicity we are getting.

It will be interesting how many members sign up for 2009......

There are plenty of suggestions on this forum that different elements in the club undermined the coach. From what I have heard and will not for obvious reasons elaborate, there were some fairly concerning issues with the coach as well. Also upon hearing the news most of the playing group in particular the younger fellows were pretty upset. All I am saying is there are 2 sides to every story and until we the members know the truth- which the club has stated we will recieve in a letter shortly(?), we should keep our powder dry.

I don't often support Jack Cahill but realistically what's he supposed to do with a team that obviously isn't good at any gameplan supplied to them. Go back to basics.

Yes Clay and Jason might have been through more technical gameplans, but South as a team are not anywhere near that level. They need simplicity, understand the basics as a baseline before taking on more detailed gameplans.

I've read on here that the 80's style of kick long and crumb wasn't to South's liking. I think that's an excellent baseline for them to build on. And if it's not to their liking, what is?

St Kilda took on Malcolm Blight and instead of listening and taking on everything he had to offer as a twice premiership coach, they ditched him cos it wasn't their way of doing things.

Have South done the same thing, but not learnt from St Kilda's example?

I don't know what he did as a football coach, but as a car company executive Graham Cornes had a record of speaking "robustly" and even abusively to his sales staff, one of whom I knew reasonably well.

That's in soccer... Different game COMPLETELY in regards to coaching/managing.

It's a lot about the passion to continue learning and improving to keep up with the game and Cahill didn't have too much of either.
