are sturt imploding ?

Postby bayman » Sun Mar 23, 2008 1:26 pm

just to ask the question on top of jar man outs post, is this the first of senior players not happy with the coaches decision to 'pinch hit' some players off the bench ?. tim was a great player for sturt & always tried his guts out but this paints a bad big headed picture of him in not wanting to do the team things & also taints his reputation, i reckon it is SOFT & yes we've had players like that at glenelg as well & i dare say every club has

SOFT TIMMY SOFT

No, if anything the opposite, by Rick showing the same rules apply for everyone it'll prove beneficial in the long run, not detrimental.

Yeah I think Wedgie is right, the coach coaches the team, not the players. Rick stood up to Timmy and set an example which can only be a good thing (unfortunately 8)).

Cant blame Rick for being honest. It isnt a circumstance were Sturt Fc have asked him to leave. It was Timmy's dummy spit/decision at the end of the day.

It was a massive dummy spit, didn't want to fight and earn a spot.. just wanted to be guaranteed a spot on the field week in/week out.

I'll admit I did have a laugh when I read that in the Mail.

Every coach has to make hard calls on players it goes with the territory - sounds like Rick has done the right thing the team must come first even if the player doesn't agree or even if he's popular with the team-mates or the fans

Are we judging Timmy too quick tho? Maybe he just saw the writing on the wall once his full-time spot on the field had gone? Doesn't mean its a dummy spit necessarially

I see the serial thread starter couldn't bear he'd missed a topic :D

Timmy will probably head off to the Hills League or some country league where he will make twice the money he would have made at Sturt anyway

Successful periods at a club are often marked with decisions such as this. Scott Lee at Centrals being the most recent one that springs to mind - 14 years at the club not guaranteeing him a GF spot is akin to TW's history not guaranteeing him a place on the field each week. I'd back MacGowan in if I were part of the Sturt faithful (but being a dogs supporter, I hope they bitch and moan for the whole season and implode just before the finals... ).

Bayman wake up and smell the grass, what you read in the sunday mail was total crap, if you call that jesper a journalist i am the prim minister of australia. the story is plain and simple, tim approached rick to have a chat and see where he was in the plans for this year. rick as a true gentleman came out and said that he didnt see tim in his top 25 players and would have to earn his spot in the 2's, at Tim's age he didnt want to start his career all over again and have to re-establish him once more. it is always hard thing to do as a coach but that is what good coaches do, they make the heart wrenching decisions, look at brenton phillips before the 2002 grand final, he couldnt find a spot for chris thredgold in his team.

I would back kookas up in the actions of the coach. Rick would not beat around the bush.

Someone should really challenge that so called journalist Jesper on the source of his story what a twitt

So the above is a question is it? Looks like a jibe to me.
You haven't read anything about it except what's on this board and yet you call a great player who has just retired, "soft" based on what people wrote about the article.
You have lost credibilty with me Bayman.

I also haven't read the article but I have read a whole lot of excited opinions based on that article. If that article turns out to be incorrect then I guess there will be a lot of fools who should keep their mouths shut before they go shooting their keyboards off.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

well just listening to the sturt coach now on 5aa & reading between the lines tim wouldn't play 2's & also missed 2 internal trials, so i'd say tim probably didn't have his heart in it 100% & therefore the committment wasn't as it used to be
