Macgowan Coaching Contract Extended

It is with great pleasure that the Sturt Football Club announces that Club Coach Rick Macgowan has extended his contract until the end of the 2009 season.

SFC President Richard Allen said “The board could not be happier that Rick has decided to extend his contract with us. The dedication he shows to his job and getting the most out of our playing group is outstanding and appreciated. This gives our Club some stability in the coaching area. We know our players will be excited about the extension and look forward to working with Rick to achieve the ultimate result over the next two seasons”

“I’m excited to be a part of the future of the SFC with such a quality group of senior players and talented juniors. I want to see this playing group achieve the goals we set out at the beginning of 2007, and that is to play and win finals” said Club Coach Rick Macgowan.

GREAT NEWS!!!!

Pfft, If you had shown the same forsight as the Glenelg administration (when we signed Mickan) you'd have signed him to a three year contract in the first place...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I like the way the Glenelg posters are all just expecting improvement on last years result and everything is finally falling in to place. I had the same feeling this time last year, and look where my mob took me..... :(

I thought this thread was about Rick MacGowan???

Good on them I say.

Does he have an AFL exit clause? Or is he one of the few that are not interested in the next level?

If so Sturt are very lucky indeed.

Good call ! Answer this question Einstein , why did the Eagles let him go , why did the Crows let him go , why did Port let him go? Seems to be a common thread . You have made the finals once in too many years and you have had a record number of coaches in the last 20 years and now you want everyone to follow Glenelgs standards . From what I know of Ricky McGowan I would not be surprised if he DOES NOT have an exit clause. He may and who wouldn't , but he seems to be a man of principle and little fanfare , I think you will find if he did he may have gone to Hawthorn this year with his mate Clarkson. You may also just eat your words on Mickan , geez I cant wait to play the Bays this yaer for points .!! :

I'm a huge Rick Macgowan fan but you seem to be taking a weird train of thought.

Using that philosphy why did Central, North and the Eagles let Rick Macgowan go? Seems a common thread. :?

I think the only exit clause Rick may have been interested in was to come to Central if Roy ever vacates the coaching possie.

Well done, Rick, on a well earned extension. Well done Sturt on appointing the right guy for an additional year.

I was just making the point that becasue someone moves on/is dismissed doesn't mean they're no good as Mickan and Macgowan were in similar boats.
As for why he left North, I heard it was because of Jarman, pure and simple, but Im not that close to the scenes in the footy dept.

With all respect I didnt see your point in your previous post .

I'm a huge Rick Macgowan fan but you seem to be taking a weird train of thought.

.

Not sure about your comments about being dismissed ? History will tell you that if you are dismissed ( not reappointed there is a differnece) that you are no good usually. That is the real wierd angle . And certainly no similiarities with McGowan and Mickan ....at all.

Quite simple and nothing else , I was referring to Tassie comment-

Pfft, If you had shown the same forsight as the Glenelg administration (when we signed Mickan) you'd have signed him to a three year contract in the first place...

Pretty straight forward if the bays have great vision with coaching appointments, thier record speaks for itself. We will wait & see with the bays they made the finals for the first time in a long time , if he has 3 , theres still 2 to go .

Anyway back to the point , congrats to Sturt and Rick !! Seems to be quite positive at the Blues.

OCT, I wouldn't worry about Tassie too much. As they say in Latin "He stirreth sh1t with a biggeth sticketh". Wait for the big fish joke when he next logs on....

P.S Great news Jimmy! Bring on season 2008!

Certainly not worried mate. Wedgies comments were strange however , completely off the track? You have to wonder sometimes about peoples comments and if they have much idea at all. Hey great news about Ricky and Oval sponsorship. I would think North are disappointed abut losing Rick M ( well there fans anyway) Seems like a great bloke and wants to succeed and Sturt succeed.

How were they strange or off track when it was in reference to your post?
I simply pointed out how Rick has moved from club to club like Mickan has. Pretty straight forward I would have thought?
You seem to insinuate that Mickan is no good as no club has held on to him but Rick is in the same boat hence making your point null and void.
:?

NO idea what North has to do with it but I can tell you North aren't too disappointed they can hang onto 50 point leads in any match let alone very important matches. :?
And Rick's finals record compared to Mickan's is? :?

And yes we were disappointed we lost him to the Eagles. Im a big fan of Ricks.
Don't get me wrong, I'd much prefer Rick to Mark but if you're going to make stupid comments be prepared to get picked up on them.

Lets take this step by step

I was just making the point that because someone moves on/is dismissed doesn't mean they're no good as Mickan and Macgowan were in similar boats.

and and Mickan are similar boats unless you are saying Rick has been moved on[/color]?.

None said anyone was dismissed.

As for why he left North, I heard it was because of Jarman, pure and simple, but Im not that close to the scenes in the footy dept.

Refer above

I'm a huge Rick Macgowan fan but you seem to be taking a weird train of thought Using that philosphy why did Central, North and the Eagles let Rick Macgowan go? Seems a common thread.

Lost me , I was talking about Mickan – refer previous comments
Nothing about North

How were they strange?
I simply pointed out how Rick has moved from club to club like Mickan has. Pretty straight forward I would have thought

Not so straight forward . I made a comment about Glenelg and their history in response to

Tassie Pfft, If you had shown the same forsight as the Glenelg administration (when we signed Mickan) you'd have signed him to a three year contract in the first place
Pretty straight forward I agree. Nothing to do with how the sun is aligning with the earth , or global warming , or rising seas , Just great stuff Sturt for signing Rick for 2 more years.
