Challenge set for 2008

Postby cd » Sun Oct 07, 2007 11:38 pm

What do the rest of us have to do to get up to Centrals standard?
Will Centrals hunger and passion wane in 2008?

The Bulldogs have set the pace - up to the rest of us now to meet the challenge.

Doggy passion will never wane - have already set our challenge as 10 in a row!
However, I think the other eight sides will make it hard to achieve - that is your goal!
Cheers

To Both the CDFC and NAFC congratulations on making this years GF and bring in a 30000+ crowd - up 5000 on last year.

Congratulations to Centrals on being the pace setters and record makers.
Also to North Adelaide on raising the bar to get to be in the grand final.

The challenge is there for the other 7 clubs as Centrals wont want to drop back to the pack and the Roosters will want to get back to the GF to show they can win.

I know at Oval Ave we accept the challenge and will be doing all we can to improve to get back to the top (but tonight comiserations to North Adelaide and Congratulations to the Bulldogs)

Its not hard, do what they do only better, they are just doing what Port did in the 90s but better. The challenge is the actual doing....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Agree tassie but arent we all trying to do that now - CDFC does it better. Is there a game plan that can make the Bulldogs vunerable?

That comment just made me think of the LJ Hooker ad.
Does that mean we can call Central the Hookers of the competition?

You do what you blokes did last year......tackle, crash, chase, harrass, smother, spoil etc to win the footy and then run it with speed to prevent them flooding back and to kick it into your leading tall target in the forward 50.

Winning in the SANFL ain't rocket science it is getting the players to do it consistantly and believe in the game plan that is the hard part

CD, I thought we were somewhat poor at times today. Yes, the backing up of each other, the tackling, harassing etc was there, but our disposal was woeful at times. Plus we made a number of silly errors, such as Obsty in the forward lines twice.

BP - think it was the backing up and options created - maybe just the run in your legs showed out - the bye etc and the way the training was planned with the time off may have been the difference?

Tassie - reckon you are spot on

CD, had we played the Eagles of 2006 in today's game I am not sure we would have won. Your performance last year was exceptional!

cd

the answer is having quality personal to match the best - there must be no obvious weak links

we have the nucleus , we need top up now

recruit wisely - get a tough on - baller , tough CHB , Tough CHF , + mobile utility palyer - blend in pace with promising juniors who can handle the tough stuff - try to keep our current personal and then i think we have a chance - we must be relentless in our pursuits

i think this yr has been a reality check / central saw the writing on the wall last yr and acted accordingly - we must do the same

barring that - i think we will just stay in the other mix - we just need to improve our current list even further just like central did last yr

good luck - lets have a go - i actual think we are the 2nd best side at the moment / just fatigue and playing catch up football all yr was a downfall at the end - after a disaturous start

it wasnt meant to be

lets make it happen / us not accepting the cup yesterday was a bitter diassapointment to all our supporters

i hated it

The challenge is to make sure Central don't make the GF or the finals for that matter. :D

Exactly right Tassie. And to do this you need a group of at least 10 quality midfielders at the top of their game. The Eagles had this in 2006. They will need to assess again and reach this figure in 2008 to have any chance. Then you can work on forwards/defence/depth etc.

Fair point Dog_ger - I reckon you do need toughness and hard at the ball take no prisoners approach to win the premiership - we had it in 2006 and i reckon that did sting the dogs towards this years overall dominant performance - minor and major round.

Coming 3rd has hurt and I'm now hungry to get back to number one - top of the chimney - where the Eagles belong! Going past the chimney will be a reminder every day now for us.
