Will the Port Magpies still be in the SANFL in 2010?

Postby Sojourner » Sat Jun 13, 2009 11:50 am

How many people give credence to the current rumour that the Port Adelaide Magpies are to be dissolved at the end of the season?

Even though the thread of your title says 2010 your poll says 09 so as we've already started and they're in the comp I voted yes.

<edit, the poll name has since been fixed>

gives people something to talk about but it ain't going to happen ... next year, the year after, or ...

As PhilH stated on LifeFM this afternoon, why would you get rid of the team that has the highest membership and pulls the biggest crowds?

There you go Maggies fans, everyone thinks you should still be in the comp! Happy? We all love you and idolise your club, now pull your fingers out of your proverbials and get on with it! I'm not gonna march for you or give you any of my hard earned, you're on your own just as you wanted it in 1990.

Because if it's going to cost the SANFL extra $$ to keep them around, they may well be in strife.

I'd truly hate to ever see our comp devoid of the Magpies, but the SANFL have become more and more like the filthy money-at-all-costs AFL these days, so who knows what they are thinking or planning.

That may be true CP but Port haven't been the only (alleged) financial basket case in the last few years. If we applied the same rule to footy clubs as we do in the business world then we'd have a very short season these days. ;)

What these other clubs didn't have in their survival fight was the schizophrenia Port Adelaide has to contend with ...

Agree CP, the AFL is a good $$$$ source for the SANFL, Why should they bother to do any thing to foster the clubs that do all the work for them, just sit back and wait for it to come in, its time for the SANFL to be innovated again and lead the way

As a SANFL footy fan, I would like to see the "Port Magpies" survive. As a realist, and someone not living in the past, and for the future of the SANFL comp, I believe the "Port Magpies" can dissappear. "Port" can still survive in the AFL, with SANFL help ;) , the SANFL get rid of the bye, there willl be more money for all clubs, and it gives South more of a chance to win a premiership. ;)
