Pfieffer's 400th game

Postby MightyEagles » Fri Jun 05, 2009 10:24 am

This weekend Tim Pfieffer will umpire his 400th game when The Eagles face Norwood at Woodville Oval.

That's pretty much 20 years of umpiring, that's impressive as you don't see many players make 400 games.
I think Richard Williams has umpired a little less around 350 - 370 as a guess.

Well done, but I am not certain the milestone needed a full page spread in the paper. What ever happened to the days when umpires were seen and not heard?

Oh come on MST, are you serious?? The guys has umpired 400 league games of SANFL, so it is a perfect opportunity for the media, the league and the umpires to promote and endorse umpires and as most of us would know, we certainly need to keep the flow of umpires coming through, as the more that come through the greater the liklihood of getting some good ones!! Its an outstanding achievement and well worth the publicity it gets.

Completely serious actually. I think 400 games involvement in any capacity, player, coach, official or umpire, is outstanding. I just don't believe a full page spread, or two articles and a photo, is appropriate, particularly when the four SANFL games get half a dozen lines mashed into an overall preview. I didn't agree with Brant Chambers getting a full page on whether or not he would 'outscore' South two weeks ago either.

The Advertiser needs to go back to the format from previous seasons, whereby each game gets a proper preview with some quotes from players and coaches.

It was appropriate to acknowledge Tim's achievement, but a smaller article would have achieved that, in my opinion. There are plenty of other ways to promote umpiring in the game to keep the flow coming through, glorifying the job and putting it on the level the paper did this morning is perhaps one of the reasons why we get ego maniacs like R. Williams umpiring our great game.

So there you go SD, I am serious.

400 games is a damn fine effort.

To get recognition in the paper is a decent effort too.

Add in the underage, reserves and AFL games and he'd be over 500 you'd imagine, as well.

Congratulations to Tim, I spent my teenage years kicking around in the same circle of friends. 400 games is a huge acheivement. If you told me when I was 18 that he would umpire 400 games I would have laughed in your face. A good bloke.

Also take into account the reserve and league games he played for Sturt in the early 80's. ;)

It will be his 390th H&A/FINALS SANFL Hame\

He umpired 9 AFL games that Port and Crows played in (Not sure how many non Adelaide Based Club AFL Games he umpired)

4 State Games

I have yet to input SANFL CUP Games which he might have contributed to

Congratulations Tim on great effort. We can only hope and pray you don't stuff this one up like your other 399. ;) ;)
