Oh come on MST, are you serious?? The guys has umpired 400 league games of SANFL, so it is a perfect opportunity for the media, the league and the umpires to promote and endorse umpires and as most of us would know, we certainly need to keep the flow of umpires coming through, as the more that come through the greater the liklihood of getting some good ones!! Its an outstanding achievement and well worth the publicity it gets.
Completely serious actually. I think 400 games involvement in any capacity, player, coach, official or umpire, is outstanding. I just don't believe a full page spread, or two articles and a photo, is appropriate, particularly when the four SANFL games get half a dozen lines mashed into an overall preview. I didn't agree with Brant Chambers getting a full page on whether or not he would 'outscore' South two weeks ago either.
The Advertiser needs to go back to the format from previous seasons, whereby each game gets a proper preview with some quotes from players and coaches.
It was appropriate to acknowledge Tim's achievement, but a smaller article would have achieved that, in my opinion. There are plenty of other ways to promote umpiring in the game to keep the flow coming through, glorifying the job and putting it on the level the paper did this morning is perhaps one of the reasons why we get ego maniacs like R. Williams umpiring our great game.
So there you go SD, I am serious.
