SA FOOTY PHILosophy #7 - State Game Live Blog

Good Morning Everyone.

Welcome to Leederville Oval, or Medibank Stadium.

We're here !!
Almost blew a gasket when our promised power and phone chord extensions couldn't be found. Turned out an umpires observor was sitting on it. All is now well we are connected to the studio and ready to go.
And yes we have had another Taxi moment ... Big Phil borrowed a hotel umbrella for his boundary riding role then left it the boot when we arrived here.
We have already decided when we do this again in 2015 we are hiring a car!!!

Weather wise its wet windy and dead set wild. Current temp about 12c strong wind from the South as predicted. Overcast skies and regular showers. Either Big Phil & I must have done some damage in our kick to kick yesterday or it bucketed down last night becuase there ae plenty of puddles on the grandstand wing and a 30m2 puddle on the northern half forward flank.

Currently the WA U18's are leading the Under 20's by 23 points mid way through the second quarter. Maybe 200 people here currently. Big page write up in The West Australian today.

11.05am WA / 12.35pm SA

- All is well for the six patrons on the outer wing, the ice-cream van has just arrived, much to the shagrin of the burger and hot chip outlet which thought it had a monopoly on that wing.

- Half time in the curtain raiser the SA boys are out on the field checking out the surface.

- Our Special Comments man Shayne from The West Australia has had a flat tyre (he my have to get a taxi !) but should be here by the time we go to air at 1.30pm SA Time.

Phil,

4 Questions.

1) Which end is the wind going according to the view you get on TV? Left or Right?
2) How hard is the rain on a scale of 1 to 10?
3) Do you reckon the weather will 1) stay the same 2) get better 3) get worse?
4) Any late changes? Either SANFL or WAFL sides.

Will this be the live scores thread?

I'm collecting stats for this match so can post those during the match.

Half Time and its not the one way rout we were hoping for.

Parry's injury just adds to South's season of woe and with that the ruck advantage now turns the West's way.

Plenty of activity at half time with Little League, kick n catch and intoductions of the WA womens team for the upcoming Nationals.

Surpirsed with the extent of chipping late in that quarter, especially by WA given they had the breeze.

Its up to SA to do something this quarter or it could be a long plane trip home.

Sounds like there will be more people there at half time than during the game!

No surprises.

As an aside, perhaps someone at our national broadcaster will explain to us when our league reverted to being the "SAFL"

Bizzare wasn't it.

If anything it should have either been WA v SA, WAFL v SANFL or Western Australian Football League v South Australian National Football League. Not the name of a state v a league that doesn't exist.

Well that' s it all over and we ended up one point short.

Feelings a bit muted at this point, because when you do a radio call you try (emphasis on try to be unbiaised) and you worry about doing your job right.

There is disapointment SA lost, but pride in the fact they fought it out 2 men down to the very end. I consider myself a very passionate promoter of the SANFL but I am far from devestated at what happened.

There is also some happiness for the WAFL people I got to meet over the last 24 hours, die hard state league supporters just like us who have suddenly received a massive boost to their competitions credibility. Thats what this win will give.

I am sure there will be reciminations and what ifs there always are in one point results in high stake games.

Its just a shame we don't get to do this for 2 more years.

I've been facinated by observing how the WAFL do things here and at some point I'll write a comparison of what I think the WAFL does better than the SANFL and vice versa.

Right now I'm off to defrost.

Cheers

One revelation from today that PhilH and Big Phil are in fact two different people. Weird.
It's all the SANFL's fault.
