But full marks to the Power, they managed in 12 years what the Magpies couldnt achieve in 112 years, losing a grand final by 119 points and becoming the laughing stock of the nation.

Channel 9 news covered this match. Or more accurately, they spoke with Chad Cornes about various Power players while showing highlights. Sturt got no mention any further than the fact that it was the opponent. Port Power might as well have been playing with themselves. Would it really have hurt to have given an appraisal of the Sturt team and mention of the better players? It really is a sad indictment on how far football journalism has sunk in this country.

Forgive me for yanking this thread back on track...

A copy of the Portside Messenger was lying on the seat opposite me on this morning's train so I picked it up and flicked through it. Noticed that the sport pages had a summary of the game between the original Port and the new Port written entirely from a Magpies perspective. Summary included reference to individual players as well as the overall team. The Power was mentioned only as the Magpies' opponent.

Raise your glasses gentlemen, I propose a toast to the Messenger Press.
