COMMUNITY FOOTBALL APPOINTMENT

The SA Football Commission is pleased to announce Rob Kerin’s appointment to the newly-established Community Football Board.

The former Frome MP, who recently stepped down after 15 years representing the electorate, will serve as one of the two outside members on the Board, which already comprises representatives from the SANFL, SAAFL and regional leagues.

It is his first appointment since retiring from politics.

Mr Kerin’s football background includes a long association with the Crystal BrookFootball Club as both a player and administrator, along with stints in school football and North Adelaide’s Under 19s.

He is currently one of West Adelaide Football Club’s joint Number 1 ticketholders, an ambassador for the Adelaide Crows and the Number 1 ticketholder for the Port Football Club in Pt Pirie.

Mr Kerin said he was looking forward to working with the Board to strengthen the position of community football in South Australia.

“Having been involved with footy half my life, I know that a lot of communities – especially ones in the country – really revolve around the local footy club,” he said.

“Community clubs in metropolitan areas too have great sporting and social benefits.”

“I’m very excited about the SANFL’s decision to make community football a focus in coming years and look forward to working with the Board.”

Community Football Board chairman David Shipway welcomed Mr Kerin to the Board, saying he brought a wealth of experience to the role.

“Rob shares our commitment to grassroots football and recognises the importance of sport in all local communities,” he said.

“Those qualities, together with his passion for football, make him a valuable and productive addition to our new Board.”

The Community Football Board, established in October, oversees and promotes all levels of football below the SANFL throughout South Australia.

The final position on the Board is yet to be determined

He was for a short period(22 October 2001 up to 5 March 2002) after Olsen was forced to resign in the lead up to the 2002 election.

Former premier is just as accurate as former politician. He might not have been the premier for years, and he might not have won an election but premier he was indeed. And if not for Peter Lewis picking Rann's side when they offered a better deal he would have been premier for a bit longer!

Anyway, good to see that the SANFL have snared someone who is obviously good at getting things done and is respected in many circles. Too many people like this are lost to the state long term

C'mon be honest, just another "job for the boys".
He just goes to the footy for the free p1ss up - I've seen him with his mates Shipway, Rosser, Condon etc etc etc
