Can someone explain to me why at least onerecruit who had received an offer and agreed to play for North in 2008 then had North renege on the deal, with them explaiing to him 'we have been told that we are over the salary cap by the SANFL if we sign you", if North have done nothing wrong?

or were North just bullshotting the poor bloke after they found someone better?

Doesn't sound very professional to me.

So you are accusing a club of breaking the rules because they told a player they couldn't sign them or they'd be breaking the rules :? Just when you think the posts on this site can't get any more stupid up they pop.

PS - Can you explain why you were trying to make "at least one" a url for us? If you have no basic comprehension of how things work it is best to stick to the basics.

And further from that, if North haven't signed this player because it would have taken them over the salary cap, stop dilly dallying around and actually name the player in question ???

Why blame North Adelaide when it was Bryce Campbell and his manager that went on a fishing trip to nearly ALL the SA clubs. Is it ok for a player to play everyone against everyone to see how much he could get offered and use as a negotiation tool but when a club finally says "we cant afford you in our cap" than thats the clubs fault.

Spot on Dash except the "we can't afford you" is just an excuse.

My "mail" on a certain player is that player X accepted an original deal offered by "a club" but then had his Manager counter 2 or 3 times which priced him out. The official line re the cap is just another way of telling him "to get ....". It also didn't help that a number of other clubs were "dealing" with him and apparently a few clubs spoke to each other over the dubious nods the player and his manager were giving. Apparently the name of a another current SANFL player who has done similar over the past 2 off seasons was mentioned as "setting the bullshit standard" to drive their own price up with their existing club!

Isn't that what you want clubs checking their figures and then saying no we can't afford you as we'll be over the cap???

The fact is clubs don't just deal with one palyer at a time. If players try to hold out and "negotiate" better deals and clubs sign other players in the meantime - where does it leave the club.

North have done nothing wrong here IMO.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

FWIW my (impeccable) mail is that far more is being made out of this fishing trip than what actually transpired. Let's just wait and see what the end result is.

Fair call.

My example re player "X" could apply to any number of players as this type of activity occurs every off season. You can't blame players (and or Managers) and clubs for dancing around trying to ge tthe best deal at the end of the day.

Meanwhile, one thing that has been forgotten on thin topic is that just cos a player says he has been offered umpteen thousand from another club, doesnt mean that it actually happened. could just be leverage to get their price up at the particular club they are talking with. Unfortunately some people just cannot be taken at their word!
