In terms of output:

1. Walker (Norwood)

How could you not put him top of the list? Kicked 33 goals which is good for 6th in the goal kicking, despite the fact he’s only played 10 games. Provided Norwood with a great option in attack and has made up for Vlatko who’s been down on form at times and has had some injuries. Is a natural forward who knows how to position himself and when and where to lead. A real smart footballer who will be a great player for Adelaide.

2. Farmer (Sturt)

I really rate Farmer and think he has great AFL potential as a back flanker or a tough, inside midfielder. He’s really strong around the packs and always willing to put his body on the line. A good mark and has excellent speed; it wouldn‘t surprise me to see him make his AFL debut before the year is out.

3. Otten (South)

Stuck in a very disappointing South team Otten has been one of the Panthers best and most consistent performers. Racks up huge possession counts most weeks and is also capable of going forward and kicking a goal. Good overhead and great around the stoppages, he just needs to add weight and a bit of hardness and aggression to make the next step.

4. Kite (Norwood)

He could probably top the list on the basis that he was the last selection and everyone passed on him. What a surprise packet Kite has been. I thought he’d spend most of the year in the reserves and yet he’d probably be in the first dozen players selected each week. His height and versatility in defence has allowed others to play their natural roles. As he is still only 18 and lightly built, Norwood will get very good value from him as they have already done.

5. Moran (West)

He’s been disappointing and has only played about 4 or 5 league games however at least he has played in the seniors and has at times had a positive impact. I struggle to see him making an AFL career but he could be an exceptional SANFL player. Can play forward or back which will be a plus for West.

6. Jacky (Eagles)

He too has been disappointing, sharing time between league and reserves, and also at the Crows, before injuring his knee that forced him out for 4 weeks. Is said to be quick and have excellent goal sense but I haven’t seen any of that yet. Still, he will take a while to develop and I’m sure the Eagles will get some valuable contributions from him for the next 12-18 months.

7. Armstrong (North)

Armstrong has played pretty well this season for North’s reserves and it’s been a surprise that he hasn’t yet made his league debut. Tony is a smart footballer who reads the play well and is very agile and poised. Makes good decisions and likes to run off his man. Just a matter of adding about 10kg to his light frame. A long way off the AFL so North will have him for some time, that’s if the Crows rate the guy.

8. Lobbe (Port)

The Power probably would have anticipated that Lobbe would have played some footy in the seniors but he’s a raw KPP who was always going to take him. Could rack up 30-40 games before he ever gets a shot with the Power which would be good for the Magpies. Haven’t seen him in action so can’t really comment but his form in the reserves has been pretty consistent.

9. Curnow (Glenelg)

A Crows rookie, Curnow is a tough and committed footballer who plays without fear. He’s quick and extremely fit and has been developing nicely with Glenelg’s reserves. I wonder what the Crows make of his progress because playing league footy was always going to be tough given how strong the Bays are this year. Has managed to make the best players a few times and looks as though he could have a future. 50/50 whether the Crows keep him.

10. Dangerfield (West)

Patrick has played 3 league games, each time contributing without excelling. For some reason has been played mainly off the back flank without ever spending much time in the midfield. I think the AFC will be desperate for him to slot straight into their team next year so don’t expect him to add many games to his tally of 3.

11. Boyle (Central)

Surprisingly made his debut in Round 1 which is an encouraging sign for the Power rookie as it says Central rate him highly. I haven’t seen him play and have barely heard a mention of him so I won’t bother wasting anyone’s time.

12. Cook (South)

David Mackay all over again. Constant hamstring troubles have ruined his season. Only played the 1 or 2 reserves games and reportedly did okay. Is predominantly a wingman but can also go forward. Said to have great pace, confidence and an attacking flair. South will get good service out of him IMO and could be one of the best players taken in last years mini draft.
