An interesting read from Ron and Andrew this week .I hope it continues on the ground.
COACHES' COMMENTS
LEAGUE
I am sure that the members are feeling the same way that the on-field group is thinking at the moment. Where has that form been for most of the season?
Some players who have been training well for the past month and have been showing glimpses of form put it together for the whole match. As I mentioned, the players have been training well and the attitude from them has been excellent, which is why the form previous to this game has been so disappointing. That is also why the result wasn’t a complete surprise.
It was good to add a little experience to the team with Jarrad Wright and Adam Klun, as well as the talent and excitement of Matthew Broadbent, but it was the more consistent efforts of those that have been a little down for the last couple of weeks that was significant. Unfortunately Gavin Colville sustained a hamstring injury that will probably sideline him for a few weeks. We do have a bye after this week’s game and it may mean he could possibly only miss the one game.
This week’s game does provide us with an immediate challenge. We do have to train with the same quality and have the same approach to the game again as we had this week. You are asking why we couldn’t possibly provide that and this in itself is why most of this game is played above the shoulders. As I mentioned, this is our immediate challenge for all of those many unexplained reasons.
I would like to add something for all our supporters to think about. It was interesting to read the Glenelg CEO comment that his club has embraced their community after they got nearly 12,000 people to their game against Sturt when it was televised as well. It made me wonder if the clubs have to embrace the community or does the community embrace the club.
The other thing that made we wonder was what is our community? It is easy to think of a community with all the other clubs but is ours the shopping precinct of Torrensville, the business centre at Hindmarsh, the political centre of Woodville or the leisure area of Henley. We are certainly unique in that we don’t have a defined area like Glenelg, Norwood, Unley, Port Adelaide, North Adelaide or even Elizabeth and Noarlunga to call a community. Maybe we need to identify one and embrace it. Just a thought.

Reserves
A much improved effort from the Reserves team this week, but unfortunately we were unable to convert this improved performance into a win. While a 19 point loss was a big improvement, we cannot be content with a loss and must continue to strive for a better performance.
After getting away to a good start we had a poor patch of footy in the second quarter, allowing Central District to kick four goals in eight minutes which ultimately cost us the game. After having the better of the scoring shots, 15 to nine in the first half, our missed opportunities and a chance to put scoreboard pressure on Centrals came back to hurt us in the second half.
There were a number of players who had very good games, with two hard nuts in Denis Redden and Tom Corbett inspiring their team-mates with their attack on the footy and tackling. Both are improving their fitness each week and are now starting to push for a League berth.
Youngster Matthew Goldsworthy continued his fine form and he teamed well with Jake Pavlich to provide us with plenty of drive. A return to form for Lee Staple at Centre Half Forward was also pleasing, as was the return of James Stewart whose great skills were on display. Other good contributors were Patty Giuffreda and Adam Jolly who gave us a spark when moved onto the footy.
