R17 projection and beyond

Postby CUTTERMAN » Mon Jun 02, 2008 11:17 am

Now that everyone has played 8 games I thought I'd look forward to R17 when everyone has played the same amount except Port who have had 2 byes. This is only very rough so forgive any mistakes.
Glenelg 26pts
Centrals 24
Sturt 22
North 18
WWT 14
South 11
Norwood 9
Port 8
West 2

Looking forward to R23
Glenelg and Centrals may tie for the minor premiership making R18 between the 2 a massive game.
To R23 with Glenelg winning 4/5, Centrals winning 5/5 and Sturt winning 4/5, North winning 3 and finishing 4th and WWT winning 2 and finishing 5th, Port to come home with a wet sail winning 3 but finishing 6th.
Your thoughts?

Not too bad Cutterman...

Reckon your predictions wont be too far off the truth...

I'm really looking forward to the Round 12 clash with the Doggies and The Bays @ Hamra Homes Oval...

There are a few "media experts" that think Glenelg might be found "wanting" on the bigger grounds so the real test for them will certainly be at the wider expanses of Elizabeth. It is also quite interesting to see (and bizzre programming from the SANFL) that 6 weeks after the above clash, The Tigers are back to the same venue to play Centrals under lights in Round 18.

I reckon that these 2 clashes will be pivotal for both clubs, especially getting closer to the finals action. Considering finals are played at Adelaide Oval (and of course the GF @ AAMI) it will really be interesting to see how the Bays do go on these bigger grounds mentioned above.

This is just my opinion, but I reckon the Premiership is down to a 3 team race. I reckon the Eagles are North will "make up the numbers" in the top 5 and the Grand Final will be played between either Centrals, Glenelg or Sturt. As long as my Doggies make the GF, I don't care who we play. As much as I would like to beat Sturt in a GF for "revenge" from 2002, it would be nice to see another new team play us, and of course lose, in the Big One !! (Of course I realise we still have to make it, I was being sarcastic...)

GO U DOGGIES...

Big Phil...

I reckon North & Eagles are right in it. On their day any of the top 5 sides are capable of winning it this year . As it stands now , I think its between Glenelg & Centrals then a bit of a gap with the next 3 .

I still come back to the fact Glenelg have only used 24 players so far and if they do get injuries it will obviuosly impact.

i am a tad concerned with the way we may go on the larger grounds, our form against an inept south outfit at noarlunga was pretty good though

Big Phil has a good point.
Glenelg are yet to prove themselves on large grounds against good sides.
We did well in the second match at Noarlunga which is pretty big (or seems big).
But with all due respect to the Panthers, its not the same challenge as coming home with a win from Elizabeth.

Eagles at Woodville will also be a big test for them. (as it always is)

Our blokes are tough in the tight contests. But I cant see why we wont perform on the bigger grounds.
Its not as if we havent got players with pace.

Centrals are still the team to beat. They are the benchmark.
Wouldnt write off the Eagles yet. With a more settled line up and Passador in form they could be dangerous.
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!

The big test for all sides at the moment will be the dogs at home in the last 6 weeks of the season IMHO. Glenelg and Sturt both play on smaller grounds, which might not be a massive factor, but playing the reigning premiers as finals approach on their own deck which isn't far from the ground size of AO and AAMI from memory will be worth a lot. If Glenelg, Sturt, North or the Eagles can knock the dogs off at HHO (although I'm not sure which sides get that chance) they will take an enormous amount out of the game. I know that Centrals aren't top, I know they haven't been playing the best footy, and they mightn't even be the best team at that stage. But given the record we have achieved in finals in the current era the "aura" is something that is a positive for us, a negative for our opposition and taking the points with everything stacked against them will be important in negating that aspect IMHO.

Good attempt Cutterman. Not sure if we will finish top but I am sure West will win at least one more game and that South are unlikely too, IMHO.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Anyone come up with anthing different or care to do the same? I know once into the season the table doesn't make any dramatic changes week by week as does the AFL but I think the big changes can come from WWT, North and maybe South, consequently if one of the top 3 have a horror run with injuries/ form.

Gee, youve got Norwood having a strong rest of the season  . Wonder if they may not have a couple more wins if this had been straight after the win at Prospect

Well go through the draw and tell me what you come up with, with your current form tell me what games you'll be marking down as a win....that's the idea of it after all! You'll probably pick up a win next week against Sturt if it's wet just as you have done the last few years. There's not going to much difference between South, Port, and Norwood, but this is only my opinion and as I said I've gone through it very quickly and posted it as I was interested what other people come up with. And the most interesting thing that I found, and you may too Brod if you care to have a look, is that I can't place much of an argument not to suggest that the Bays will probably finish top after R23 :o

Two games at HHO to come, plus visits to Alby & Woody where they haven't won since god knows when. Fantasies of a minor premiership remain just that.

FootySA.com used to have a final ladder calculator... is that still going?

I think the Legs can easily beat five other sides in the SANFL, and have beaten three in the first eight games and drawn with another..there is no reason they cannot do similar in the next eight, rather than ONE win..Im not sure what gives you such great confidence in North and the Eagles suddenly finding form

No Brod there isn't.. so name your rounds. The confidence I lack with Norwood is often if they're not up then they're awful and that will hit their confidence, what sets North and WWT against Norwood is that they have current finals experience, not having a go at your club or you it's just that I can't see that much of a turn around.

Will win at least two of the following ...
R 10 vs WWT (Woodville)
R 13 vs West (Coopers)
R 14 vs South (Hickinbotham)
R 15 vs North (Coopers)
