MEDIA RELEASE

FANS STAY AWAY FROM SANFL INCLEMENT WEATHER ROUND

Round 8 saw football fans stay away in droves from the highly unsucessful SANFL Inclement Weather Round matches, recording the lowest aggregate crowd attendance since Round 23 2007 and the lowest round 8 attendance on record.

SANFL General Manager - Partnerships & Strategy, Rob Nelson said the SANFL is satisifed with the result.

“With a total attendance of 6,949, while we were disappointed with the total, we were still satisfied considering the almost live ABC broadcast of the Port/Sturt match, plus radio coverage of two other matches. It would be easy for the fans who attended to stay at home and tune into these matches, but full marks to them for supporting their clubs”

“We would like to thank the SA footy community for their support in making Inclement Weather Round 2008 one to remember and encourage these supporters to attend the next Inclement Weather Round, and bring along a mate or two as well” said Mr Nelson.

The Inclement Weather Round games, scheduled to coincide with a weekend forecast with showers, cold winds and small hail, were designed to give footy fans a taste of the good old days. Mr Nelson hopes next time the ovals will be muddy as well.

West and Central drew a crowd of 1,219, the lowest attendance between the two clubs on record.

The SANFL has shown solid growth in crowd attendance this season, despite the decrease in crowd numbers of the weekend, is still on track for a bumper season of crowds.

Key SANFL dates to remember include :

State match: South Australia v Victoria on Saturday 31 May at Adelaide Oval

District Football Round: Saturday 7 June & Monday 9 June

I reakon the thought of the SANFL doing this one for real is funny, but it has to be seriously written to make it look like a proper media release.

as much as this is a joke, the SANFL need to start pulling up their socks before this becomes a reality.

The SANFL appears to be ignorant of internet technology and how they could use the internet to promote football in this state.

Live scores, yea I'd like to see that

Video highlights, the WAFL do it and it would not be hard for them to put together the 5 best marks goals and hits of the round

Victoria do a panel show that goes to air every tuesday although short it is better than nothing.

the SANFL fail to promote the kids that are in the mix to be drafted where as the TAC just keep pumping them up, it should not effect the numbers that get drafted but it does.

Oh and match stats on the internet for all grades that would be great to.
