13,189 -- If Unley & Elizabeth can average 3,500 each then the 20K is gone.

5625 at the bay, you guys on thde wirless were complaining that it was not a good crowd, then you were around 4500, 5625 great crowd, shows just how much the SFL influences our crowds

Crowd doubled in the last 10 mins before the game started. Looks like most people wanted to avoid the legends game, dont blame them, a complete waste of time.

We just need 3321 at Elizabeth tonight to get 20k, should do it easy.

Well done to the SANFL for this weekend. :D

Locky on LifeFM we said the crowd was poor early in the coverage before the game (15 mins out probably on 3K of the final number there).

We then updated that as it built up. Anyone there would confirm a lot of people came very late (probably expecting a 2.20pm start).

Very impressive so far Phil. Waiting on the Centrals vs Eagles crowd.

Probably over optimistic for CD v Eag but I thought having the Gawler derby (Gawler South v Gawler Central) on early as the curtain raiser could bring in an extra thousand or so.

Time will tell.

Well done . I didnt think we would get there but in hindsight maybe we could have got a bit better .? 3500 at Elizabeth is disappointing. Oh well I thought crowd at Unley V West was good ,about the same as Central /Eagle

Anyway for those that went that wouldnt normally ,I hope they got a taste for it and come back , cos it is a lot different to the Robots running around on perfect surfaces.

Great result.

I have to admit Phil I was at the game last night and I estimated no where near that figure. I would have thought no more than about 2,400 actually. I did however see a few vacate quickly after the early game though. Not enough to make up that sort of difference though.

congratulations to the supporters of SANFL football to get 20,000 plus crowd. If there is one disapointment to say that there was no game on the sunday, would have been nice to move one of the games to the sunday, but otherwise the weekend was perfect with the weather.

I took a punt at 4k last night, the crowd in front of where I sit was certainly bigger than a standard 3k game, the outer side had a reasonable crowd as well.

I think a combination of the dream team game, cooler night game and playing the Eagles didn't help the crowd but I'm still disappointed, 5k should have been achievable.

I thought 4,000 myself. I don't know how much junior footy would affect a Sunday match, but with no AFL at all, it may have been more.

The Central-Eagles game should have been played today, rather than in direct competition to the "Dream Team" game on TV, and in my opinion would have drawn a much bigger crowd. A beautiful Sunday afternoon, with no AFL competition for the only time this season, was crying out for a featured SANFL match. I cannot believe that the League let this opportunity slip.

Not so sure, statistically night games have proven to draw much bigger crowds than day games. Even though there was no AFL game on the sunday, i think playing it as a stand alone Sunday game would of just levelled the crowd out to about the same amount as Saturday night.

MEDIA RELEASE

FANS FLOCK TO SANFL RIVALRY ROUND

Round 7 saw football fans flock to the highly successful SANFL Rivalry Round matches, recording the largest aggregate crowd attendance since Anzac Weekend Round 5, 2002 and the highest round 7 attendance since 1993.

SANFL General Manager - Partnerships & Strategy, Rob Nelson said the SANFL is very pleased with the result.

“With a total attendance of 20,258 it was a terrific turnout across all four venues. The result punches us through the 100,000 barrier for total attendances after just seven rounds, which correlates to a 13.4% increase in average match attendance, clearly demonstrating the appetite for the SANFL brand of football and the community-driven atmosphere is alive and well.”

“We would like to thank the SA footy community for their support in making Rivalry Round 2008 one to remember and encourage those once or twice a year supporters to come along more frequently and get their dose of SANFL footy,” said Mr Nelson.

The Rivalry Round games scheduled to coincide with Community Football Weekend, were a great success with the League’s traditional club rivals playing over the same weekend. The total attendance of 20,258 is also a 20% increase on last year’s rivalry round matches.

Norwood and Glenelg on a 5 game winning streak recorded their highest home ground attendances for 2008.

The SANFL has shown solid growth in crowd attendance this season. An increase of 6.5% in the past 2 years, followed by strong crowds during the opening rounds proves the League is on track for another bumper season.

Key SANFL dates to remember include :

State match: South Australia v Victoria on Saturday 31 May at Adelaide Oval

District Football Round: Saturday 7 June & Monday 9 June
