DRAGGA'S RETIREMENT

Postby bundy » Thu May 08, 2008 4:06 pm

8 May 2008

The West Adelaide Football Club regretfully announce the retirement of Marc Dragicevic. Marc informed the playing group and coaching staff of his decision before training last night.

Unfortunately this season Marc has been plagued with injuries that have prevented him from achieving the standard of football we have had the privilege of watching him play over the past few seasons. Marc was runner up to the best & fairest in 2005, 2006 & 2007. Marc played 60 league games over the past three and a half seasons in addition to 48 AFL games with the Richmond Football Club.

Andrew Collins (Senior Coach) said “it is very sad to see a player of that type of caliber retire with the mind still capable but the body not able to continue due to tendonitis of both knees and arthritis of the ankle. I’ve seen Marc dominate VFL/SANFL football and is arguably one of the best clearance players”.

Marc Dragicevic said “he would like to thank the Club for allowing him to play his part with a great group of people and even though it has not been successful, I really enjoyed every moment and look forward to watching the Club head in the right direction”.

Damien Phillips (CEO) said “Marc will be playing his final game this Saturday in the reserves and we encourage all supporters to come along and acknowledge a great player of the West Adelaide Football Club”.

Disappointing for West Adelaide. Always looked to give his absolute best for the club. Runner up B&F three years running is testament to his commitment. Have never hidden my enormous admiration for his playing style and impact for West, and said more than once that he was one of the club's best Victorian recruits for the past 20 years. Very best of luck to him in retirement.

Been a good clubman by the looks.
Disappointing for the Bloods who i reckon aren't too far off a good run of games.

How old is he? He doesnt seem that old so I am wondering if a year off for a break might be what he needs rather than going the full way and retiring?

Anyway he has been a great player for the WAFC, so all the best to him in his retirement, his shoes will be hard to fill at the club! :(

I am pretty sure he has had 2 knee reconstructions...and he was one of the first to do his knee in on the famous Telstra dome playing for Richmond when they had problems with the loose surface..I guess it catches up with you after a while...anyway, he's been a great player for the Bloods and will be missed.
