I notice a number of people have disagreed with my comment about all clubs being allowed equal chance to advertise their brand. I believe this is necessary, otherwise if you continue to highlight the better teams and ignore those not doing so well, then prospective new supporters of SANFL will end up supporting the better teams and create a greater imbalance.
I have a soft spot for Manchester United in soccer, and the Los Angeles Lakers in basketball. This interest was born simply because whenver I would watch the EPL or NBA as a lad, those two teams were shown constantly. What hope did I have of ever taking an interest in other teams?
I think by showing West Adelaide on tv, it gives people a chance to see them play, realise the oval is not far from where they live, and maybe take a local interest.
And what hope would lower clubs have of attracting corporate sponsorship if prospective sponsors knew that team would rarely be shown on the electronic media?
The SANFL is not the AFL. It is a community game, and should be promoted on a commmunity level. And to those supporters who follow sides doing a little better than others ATM and think that's why they should be on tv ahead of West Adelaide, ask yourself if you'd be happy about never seeing your team on tv just because they are lower ranked on the ladder. My guess is you wouldn't be.
