Wrong. Even though kids dont pay they are counted in crowd figures. Guys on the gate count them.

Just an idea.... What if the SANFL gave an option to each AFL ticket sold that if you pay an extra $1 or $2 and you get an SANFL pass to any game (Bar Blockbuster ie anzac day and finals) on top of your afl ticket purchase..The catch is the SANFL ticket will only be given with the presentation of identification at the ticket outlet and would have youre details written on it and can be redeemed at any sanfl ground along with identification. It would be extra money of which the SANFL would not have had before and also you would think the crowds would go up..........

Not a bad idea Kooka, but I assume you mean, ticket as in non membership i.e walk up ? If so doesn't that money go to the AFL so how would you do it ? Purchase two tickets, one proceeds the AFL the other the SANFL?

In regard to membership, I am a member at Carlton, and a option of my membership which I have previously taken up is to also become a member of our affiliate the Northern Bullants. This worked as the money invested in Carlton helped the Bullants etc. Perhaps the Crows/Power have this option and return the money (it was $5 for Bullants membership -no games) back to the nominated SANFL club.

I had dinner with the Crows membership manager last night, should have nutted soemthing out after the beers and bottles of wine we consumed

Good question, not sure how the money situation works at admin level but my idea would have the SANFL gain all money from the 'add on' sale. Current members of power and crows maybe could have an extra $23 dollars to obtain 23 SANFL regular season passes. Seeing at youre name will be printed on the ticket theres no way it could be passed on to gain cheaper access to matches for regular goers and the majority of people attending SANFL chose to do so over AFL so not revenue would be lost there. Kids U 18 are free currently aswell so theres no reason why people will not have id. Even if you get 300-400 extras per week its a bonus at local level

Media Release from the SANFL:

Footy Fans ‘Come and Get It’ with

Attendances on the Increase

The first four rounds of the 2008 SANFL season have seen attendance figures escalate at local footy grounds.

A total of 58,359 patrons have gone through the turnstiles over the first four rounds compared to 51,224 at the same time last year. This amounts to an impressive 6.8% average increase per game.

These figures come off the back of a 4.2% growth last year where total attendances amounted to 322,835.

Executive Commissioner Leigh Whicker has hailed the start to the 2008 SANFL season a resounding success.

"The public has clearly responded to the terrific footy being played on the field together with our ‘Come and Get It’ marketing campaign which highlights the skills and passion so ingrained in South Australian football, " he said.

There are a number of stories rising out of the season to date including Jack Cahill’s return to coaching, leading the Panthers to three straight wins which in turn has stimulated interest down South with the 3,000 attendance barrier being broken for the first time since June 2006 last Saturday.

"We expect to continue the trend this week with the Anzac round highlighted by West End Battle at Adelaide Oval on Friday between last year’s Grand Finalists Central and North Adelaide," said Mr Whicker.

The SANFL also enjoyed an incident free weekend off the ground with no reports of crowd disturbances or evictions from any of the four grounds in operation.

"We have worked hard in presenting SANFL league footy in a positive light with initiatives such as the Savings & Loans Family Friendly Areas at all grounds now clearly starting to pay off," said Mr Whicker.

For all the AFL lovers who also want to see the SANFL become nothing more than a parklands league, they will have to wait longer.

Great to see that more than 3,000 attended each of the four matches last weekend. Seems like quite a rare occurrence these days. It would be interesting to know how many times this has happened since we have had the two AFL sides from 1997.

And even more significant is that Central had the bye.

This round was the third:

Round 4 1998 (one day more than ten years ago, by date)
West vs Central 4923
Glenelg vs Port 4734
Eagles vs Norwood 4245
North vs Sturt 3770

Round 9 2006
North vs Eagles 3546
Central vs Norwood 3383
Port vs West 3086
Glenelg vs Sturt 3669

I expected a couple more between 1997-99 myself, so I agree, for sure.

So the 70000 mark was passed for Anzac Day weekend, but not by a lot.
