Maybe some of the old "torrens supporters could shed some light on this but I recall reading somewhere that pre-1960, Torrens were the 2nd most supported team in the league behind Port and the rivalry between the 2 teams was huge.

Well West Torrens was a break-away faction of the Port Adelaide football club and were originally called the Port Natives. This happend in the 1890s so come the 1950s there would have been 2nd and 3rd generations from the original split keeping it "rivalry" alive.

However in matters of this type I defer to the Master, Spelly!!!!!!

In these AWFL days when we've come to accept 3-4000 as a good home crowd, the attendances at Unley in 1966 make interesting reading.

We also had 5 figure crowds at all of our Adelaide Oval games including 34000 on Anzac day, 43000 for the 2nd Semi, 35000 for the Prelim and nearly 60000 at the GF.

The Torrens match is almost the biggest figure there. That surprised me, but then I remember my mum, who hates footy, telling me about the old days when the streets around Thebarton would choke every time there was a footy game on. Apparently, according to the people of her generation, Torrens was the team to follow back in those days.

The Sturt/Glenelg rivalry thickens with Jim Plant(Sturt) and his brother Rob (Glenelg).

A voice in the background is heard - telling him to "F*** Off". Port people on this site be able to confirm but it sounded like Choco's voice.
