Interesting one. I'd reckon few Vic youngsters would know much about the SANFL. If anyone they'd know of Port Adelaide i'd reckon but other than that it's anyone's guess. Maybe Central given their recent dominance.

"Teen has a lot to Crow about"

Former Liverpool Eagles Australian Football Club junior Tony Armstrong has been drafted into the big time, joining the Adelaide Crows for next year.

The 183cm tall teenager who spent three years at the Eagles from 1998 to 2000, was recently the Crows' official number 58 draft selection under the AFL system.

Armstrong, 18, is also the second indigenous player drafted by the Crows this year to join their ranks in South Australia. The talented rookie moved to Burrumbottock, near Albury-Wodonga, several years ago with his family before shifting to Melbourne, playing with the Calder Cannons while boarding at Assumption College.

Armstrong said the prospect of being drafted into the AFL is a dream come true and he cannot wait for the season to start.

``I'm excited about playing alongside many of the players at the Crows I looked up to as a youngster,'' he said.

``I'm really looking forward to meeting both of the indigenous guys, Andrew McLeod and Graham Johncock.''

Armstrong, who plays defender, is being groomed to take over from McLeod in the long-term, one of the AFL's leading footballers.

``I don't think I'll be taking McLeod's spot in defence anytime soon. When he wants to leave the game then I might to get to take it.''

Liverpool Eagles AFL Club vice-president Lesley van Groesnen said Armstrong's rise to the AFL is fully deserved. ``Tony played at the club for three years and the boy always had talent,'' she said.

``Tony's story is a good example for the junior players at the club of what they can achieve in the sport. In his time with the Eagles he played 66 games and scored 59 goals and played for several representative age teams. Tony was also best and fairest for the under 12s team in the year 2000.''
