Winning in round 1 is more important than being pre-season Premier.

So if your mob managed to make the Grand Final of a preseason comp they'd simply lie down and let the other mob walk away with the silverware? You, as a supporter of your team, wouldn't go to watch them play in a preseason final and wouldn't so much as smile if they won it?

I agree that the point of a pre-season comp is to warm up for the main season. However any club which found itself in the position to walk away with prizemoney and a trophy after one more win but didn't then take it seriously, would not be suitably professional for a league of the SANFL's standard.

I HONESTLY couldnt care less whether my side [North] won the comp or not.
a. They dont need the cash
b. No-one remembers the winners except the desperates clutching at straws
c. I want the focus on the real stuff eg.Round 1

I think the best preparation is to lose any pre-season comp at the prelimlnary final stage and that way you have had good hit outs and can then focus and fine tune the last week without winning a Micky Mouse cup.

That's the exact narrow minded attitude that brought an end to a proper pre-season attitude in the first place.

Hey G. I'm sure jars and his fellow coaching staff and players would see it very differently to you if there was a proper pre-season comp again. Your fooling yourself if you continue to believe differently.

I can remember from mid 80's to early 90's i think it was the Foundation Cup. Was great to see a couple of games televised on a Friday night, got the chance to check out the new recruits and youngsters at your club. I'm not saying it would ever get back to that, and the likelihood of it being televised would be small, but if it could go back to a repeat of those days i certainly wouldn't be complaining.

I agree too G.
The real appeal of the Foundation Cup was it was on TV, no SANFL preseason tourney these days would be shown on TV.
It would do nothing for promotion as only diehards would go to preseason matches (no different to now) and would cost a lot more money.
If it couldn't be sustained in the early 90s when the standard and attendances were lot better what chance would it have now?
Pie in the sky stuff which isn't viable.
