I agree, wouldn't be a huge threat in the SANFL this year if he made a comeback.

I would strongly disagree gents.

I am not for one minute suggesting he will play but if he did he would be extremely handy both in the ruck and in a KP. He has had trouble with his back but we must all remember he was training full time in the AFL and that wouldn't have helped the cause. The guy is only 31 yo, is built like a brick outhouse and has a great footy brain. He has a rowing background and as such his natural fitness and ability is terrific.

He would need to be managed carefully and IF he did play it would take a little while to get back to near his best, but rest assured, he would make a very big impact on Sturt and the SANFL, particularly around September (not that followers of South or Port would need to be concerned there).

If I were an opposition supporter I would rather he just coached!

I agree, especially given Sturt only finished only one position above the Magpies.

9 out of the last 11 seasons in the finals with 2 GF's and 1 win make Sturt 2nd only to Centrals in the last decade.
Hardly a 1 season wonder.

Smithy, actually would make you third behind Central and the Eagles. Don't forget about their one premiership and five GF appearances in the same period. I have a feeling they have not missed the finals in that time either.
Cheers

How do they rate above WWT? Surely 3 runners up and a flag is a better effort than Sturt's performances over the last decade..

As far as GF's go, yes you are right, the Eagles would be 2nd, but in the last 11 years the Eagles have played finals 9/11 as well as Sturt but with more GF appearances.
I'll concede that and rank Sturt 3rd over the past decade.
Still not a 1 season wonder though.

I agree with the revision of your thoughts Smithy, and I'll go along with the protests against your original statement. Sturt definitely behind the Eagles now they also have a premiership this century.
Great little fantasy this thread has provided though. French pulling on the boots for the Double Blues? I would love to see that! I'd find someone to mind the fort and get a plane ticket back to Oz to see that. Minor round game or whatever, seeing Barnaby fighting in the Sturt guernsey one last time would be worth it, if it was true. I do think that we won't see him represent us on the playing field again, but it is great to have the big fella around the club again all the same.
If it helps us put another trophy in the cabinet, then he'll just be living up to his reputation in Double Blue land.
Great bloody club full of fine people! GO YOU BLUES!!!!
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

You dont think this comment from MST isn't cocky

No , not no chance , but not agreat chance - but two questions for you

1) Are you suggesting South will make the 5
2) Who will Port honestly replace in the 5 or do you not believe you will

South is only one part of the equation as far as what MST said.

I'd say Port has a reasonable chance of making the 5 for sure. Could replace WWT or Sturt. I'm not saying we're certainties, but its still a fair chance.
