Don't know if it could work but definitely worth going through and adding up everything to see if it is a chance. First issue I'd consider is if Fitzroy were to reform wouldn't the new VFL be more appealing to them, seeing as there'd be so much less travelling?
But then would we be underestimating the lure of the 2nd best league in the land?
This is what interests me so much about the idea, having one or two ex-AFL clubs would increase the SANFL's status around the country, it would give it a feel of a second division rather than a second best league. Of course it would remain a seperate entity, and there would not be any clubs going up and down between the leagues, but it would begin to resemble a league consisting of all the second tier clubs from around the country, in much the same way that a second division is consisted of all the second best clubs from whatever region they play in.
This means greater interest in the SANFL.
If it works, hence I think it is worth a real look.
