That;s right, Rodney Campbell said on ABC that they went to South for a trial but were told they weren't good enough..

Indeed, I chatted to one of them (which one, I have no idea) at Unley one year after a Sturt v CD game, while they were having a couple of drinks. Good blokes, they'd look sensational in Double Blue.

Let alone what alone of people think of these two, might i add alot of it is just going along with what other people "think" they know about them. They are great footy players, and off the field great blokes. I've chatted with the both of them on occassions and as a Sturt supporter they were very welcoming for a chat.

I agree with Wedgie in what he says about what they've done for their club and the SANFL as a whole, people love to hate them and people who support the Dogs love to hear people hate them and still make 8 straight grand finals. None the less.. i think their a secret recipe to the dogs success, it's not that secret.. considering in the 6 grand finals they've taken best on ground on three of the occassions.

"New post Re: Chris and James Gowans Appreciation Thread
After they eventually retire, I would like to see a bronzed statue of James and Chris with their arms around each other at the entrance to Grand Central. IMO that's how much they mean to the club.
I would be happy to chip in some funds too if the hat was being passed around."

Me thinks a bronzed statue of James and Chris punching each other out at the entrance of Grand Central is thew way to go. I mean as if it wont been the first time we have seen the 2 lovable larrikin go each other

Two very talented footballers, chippies by trade also. They have great skills, reliable shots on goal, tough and physical in and around the contest and they run all day. When things arent going well (not that much really has) they look to each other for that lift, even if it means belting each other. It makes you laugh but it seems to work.
Have had a few beers with these guys too and i can say they are the most laid back blokes you will meet. They love a beer and are always full of laughs.
Who ever was responsible for getting those two to the dogs must be sitting back with a huge smile.

I won some money on Chris winning the Jack Oatey medal, and thanked him for having such a great game and of my winnings, and his response was bring it out to elizabeth and enjoy the drinks even more, which i did.
Every year i put money on the two of them to win the medal because they are such great players especially in big games.
Spoke to James at Max Basheer reserve on saturday and he was just happy to have a quick chat and gave my kids high 5s because they had his and Chris' numbers on their jumpers.
As footballers these two are skillfull, couragious, determined, tough and un-comprimising but as people you will never meet too many better (or as footballers).

Westies supporter know the true truth why we don't have the Gowans and I am not posting it on here because Wedgie and I don't need a lawsuit each. I got three suits and a law suit isn't one of them.

A fair idea on how much they are icons of SANFL post 1999, is that they seem to be the only players to be asked questions on a general topic about footy from this League in the Newspapers these days - i.e. the casual articles not related to match day events. That to me shows that while people live to hate them, you cannot argue they are good for the SANFL.
