SANFL Umpiring Positioning

Postby Wedgie » Sun Aug 12, 2007 5:40 pm

Christ this annoys me, we have 3 umpires and they all stand in exactly the same area ie down the corridor.
Why bother having 3 umpires if they're all going to have the same view of packs near the boundary?

FFS Shane Harris get one to stand on the boundary side like they do in the AFL or give the boundary umpires more powers or get rid of the 3rd umpire. The 1 trial the SANFL did with the boundary umpires having more powers was the best display of SANFL umpiring Ive seen in 20 years and yet its never been trialled since, why trial something if you're not going to implement it when its successful?

What annoys me is they stand on the same side as you and you see a free that should be paid and the umpire misses it or they stand on the wrong side and pick up a 50/50 free.

the most annoying thing for me is when the appears there is going to be a ball up the umpires are too far away from the action and they want to run a circle around it rather than getting in closer.......

I must say Wedgie I agree with what you are saying   .
Sitting in the G/S at Woodville its quite common to see an umpire standing with his hand over his eyes to shield the sun while trying to watch the play. What then happens is he is blinded to what actually happens to whichever team.So many high tackles etc are missed due to the sun blinding the umpire.
Simple solution stand on the boundary side of play .
And how about ball ups so many can not bounce the ball at centre bounces.throw the damn ball up.
