OK I understand your point now and agree - having worked with various athletes, they all need to be commited if they are to be successful - which I think is your point. I would refine your statement about what defines SANFL (or any sporting payments) back to one issue and that is income stream. Sports pay their athletes as much as they are capable of paying them. Sometimes they lack the managerial ability or judgement to assess how much is enough and send their organisation broke in the process so must have their judgement over-rode by things like salary caps.
