Re: Live scores - Finals Week 2

By current standards it wasn't a bad crowd yesterday. It was on a par with 2010 and 2014 and just less than 2009. It was certainly much better than crowds for other semi finals of the last 10 years.
I would say that was because 3 of the sides have a very reasonable following.
What was the official crowd figure? It looked above 10,000, but it is hard to estimate that size crowd at Adelaide.

13,000+ from memory as per Monday's paper.

Lenswood- 12s, maybe 14s (likely to combine a team with Birdwood)
Birdwood- same as above
Cambrai- 12s
Gumeracha- 16s
Springton- 12s?? Not sure.

Re: Grand Final Day - Your Plans

Channel 7 will not be having a GF Marathon from Friday night as in past years. Instead they are replaying the Preliminary Finals between 12.55am and 6.30am.

Disappointing.

During the 90s I used to really enjoy their "that was the season that was" specials on the Friday night before the GF. A great summary of the season. Although having said that, if they produced a similar show these days it would be hosted by 'Hame' and 'Daise' and would likely be cringeworthy.

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

Mid way point of another tightly contested TVCA season..

Rose Park (6-3) Score runs quickly but perhaps still lack bite with ball. If they have a settled line up will be hard to beat
Cambrai (6-3) Slow start before winning 6 straight. Perhaps lack depth of some other sides but are always competitive.
Lenswood (6-3). Fast start before falling into a bit of a hole. Batting not performing at last year’s level
Gumeracha (5-1-3). Stronger side on paper than last season and will challenge for the flag

Paracombe (5-4). Lack a bit of bowling depth currently but should again feature when it matters
Palmer (4-1-4) Heavy reliance on Rathjen with willow but strong bowling depth
Mt Torrens (2-1-6). A final ball victory v Lenswood the highlight in a disappointing season to date
Birdwood (0-1-8). Fell 4 runs short v Mt Torrens but other than that another long season for the Bulls.

Gumeracha and Paracombe the early stands outs in the B Grade, while if Eden Valley can select their strongest team they will challenge. Cambrai, Palmer and Lenswood fighting for 4th but will just make up the numbers.

Re: 2018/19 Australian Summer of cricket

Well it saddens me to say that Bumrah ia clearly a better bowler than any of our quicks.

And we have seen two Vics looking all at sea on their home deck. Wow...what about when the non Vics face the music.
This should be a draw but we are talking about Australias batting talent circa 2018 here so lets see what transpires.

Love watching Bumrah bowl. Cant recall an Indian quick I've enjoyed watching more than him.

"Founder", Michael Keaton on the story about McDonald's rise and rise.

Not good, not bad, bit arty farty at times but the story is worth knowing about.

Didn't mind it .. Pretty easy to watch, and quite thought provoking particularly in terms of morality and success in life.

Watched it on a flight a year or two back, really enjoyed it. I wasn’t familiar with the story. Left me craving a vanilla thickshake..

November 2014 was their last win. Approx 60-65 matches have passed since.

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

In the TVCA we have 3 teams jostling for the final 2 spots with a fortnight remaining, with Palmer and Gumeracha assured of finals action.

Palmer 11-1-4 (Gum, Rose Park remaining games)- Undefeated during the past 9 rounds, firming as flag favourites
Gumeracha 11-1-4 (Palmer, Cambrai)- Meet Palmer this week which may decide top spot. Better depth this season

Lenswood 10-6 (Paracombe, Birdy)- May need to win both to remain in the 4. Inconsistent since winning first 5 games
Cambrai 10-6 (Mt T, Gum)- Like Lenswood may need to win both as NRR is average. Batting depth a concern
Rose Park 9-7 (Birdy, Palm)- Superior NRR to Lenswood and Cambrai but still a game back

Paracombe 7-9- The reigning champs will miss finals for the first time in 8 years
Mt Torrens 3-1-12- Have played some good cricket but cant win the close ones
Birdwood 1-1-14- Reasonably competitive over the past 6 weeks, some young talent with the ball

In the B Grade, Paracombe, Gumeracha and Eden Valley will play finals, while it’s highly likely Cambrai will finish ahead of Lenswood for 4th spot. Eden Valley the form team at the moment.

In encouraging news, the TVCA U21s have beaten Great Southern and AEHCA the past fortnight, so will confront Hills in a couple of weeks time. The bulk of the team is from Palmer, Lenswood and Birdwood.

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

TVCA semis

A Grade:

Palmer v Cambrai – The skunks had a win in R5, but Palmer rolled them for 48 the last time they met
Gumeracha v Lenswood – Lenswood won back in R1, but the Magpies had the better of the other 2 contests

B Grade:

Gumeracha v Cambrai – The magpies should win this, beat the Skunks by 50 last round
Paracombe v Eden Valley – EV are the form team, could go either way

If the temp remains at 40 or above, the home sides will proceed without a ball being bowled. The by-laws are likely to be changed for next season to minimise the risk of this happening again.

In the U21's Figg Cup, TVCA thumped HCA by 10 wickets. HCA won the 13s, AEHCA the 15s.

What are you suggesting it be changed to ? to avoid this issue

Have the option to play on Sunday and/or revise the heat rule for finals (ie lift it to 42 degrees and/or start earlier if possible and/or play a shortened 35 over match). Even with these revisions weather may still impact the match, but at least there are some contingencies.

As it stands now, the grand final can be played on the following Saturday if it doesn’t proceed on the planned date.

Like all clubs we’ve been training and playing since the start of September, so for our season to end on this note will be quite a let down. (especially as we rarely make finals  )

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

TVCA Grand Finals:

Palmer v Gumeracha @ Birdwood
Gumeracha v Paracombe @ Mt Torrens

Semis were abandoned. Very hollow way for Lenswood, Cambrai (both grades) and Eden Valley to end their season.

My care factor is quite low for the GF results. All 3 clubs have had plenty of success over the past half a dozen seasons. If I had to tip winners I'd go Palmer and Gumeracha (b's).

Looks like a cracking final round coming up in the AEHCA.

So looks as though Aldgate needed 1 off the final ball of the day, 1 wicket in hand. And they got it- ending Meadows' run of flags in the process.

They were 3/100 earlier and look 79 overs to reel in 129.

Two remarkable finishes over the weekend, making TVCA's 14 run GF margin seem comfortable. ;)

Re: Round 2 - Live scores, results & discussion...

Both teams got what they desired at Alberton. South the 2 points and some confidence, Port an opportunity to fine tune their chipping across half back and ill-disciplined tackling.

From memory Whittlesea kicked 4 or 5 goals for the entire 2018. Has started 2019 with 7 in two outings. The usual suspects were good for South, while I loved the dash and poise of young Sampson (son of Clay) in the first half. New recruit Karpany was clean with his hands and seems to have 'footy smarts' but kicking let him down. The only dampener was the injury prone Sam Overall hitting the showers after just a few minutes.

Stat of the day- South led the free kicks at QT 11-0.

BP and Zac Milbank did a very solid job on the digital pass. Refreshing to listen to a duo that know their SANFL and aren't a token 'special comments' appointment.

Re: South v Norwood Mon 1410

Entertaining game with plenty of momentum shifts. South should/could have been further than 15 points ahead at half time, negating the breeze in the first term before dominating the second. The Legs slammed on 7 goals in the third, converting opportunities from outside 50 and around stoppages. The lead got out to as many as 26 in the final quarter, but a goal to Heaslip at the 26 min mark reduced the margin to 2 points. South continued to press hard, but McKenzie took a couple of pack marks to see the Legs hold on.

Liked the games of Cross (33 and 4 goals), Cailotto (smashed in ruck but 31 touches and 12 clearances), Noble, Haines and Karpany.

Outside of Good Friday games, one of the best crowds I've seen at Noarlunga in recent years. Actually had to line up to buy a beer and take a piss..

The story of South's season continues- a mix of good, bad and ugly.

Lastly, well down to hills lad Dawe on his 200th.

Re: Things that give you the sh1ts

The Sunrise story this morning about Pearcey playing 800 footy matches. According to Sunrise, he's played 800 AFL matches.

Because the show is Sydney-centric, they have to use the term AFL so the rugby-ites don't get confused
Back in the days before AFL hegemony it was sufficient to use the terms "league", "union", "rules" or "soccer" to differentiate between codes for the run-ball fans.

Yep, the sport is so widely referred to now as "AFL", as driven by the media. I correct people when given the opportunity, as it certainly gives me the sh1ts.

Anyone recommend a Japanese Restuarant where you sit around the chef and he cooks dishes in front of you? Looking to take the family somewhere different for the Mrs's birthday.

Yakitori Takumi, a small Japanese bar/diner on Melbourne Street is worth a look. Not cheap ($100-120 for a couple on average from my experience) but excellent food and outstanding service. Depending on where you sit though you may not necessarily have a great view of the chefs. The best seats are at the bar.

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

TVCA news:

Rose Park CC have sadly met their demise, pulling the pin after just 2 years in our comp. Really enjoyed playing them and sharing a drink afterwards.
Eden Valley to return to A Grade and are hopeful of filling a B's. Birdwood unsure of their future, and may opt just to field a B's. Mt Torrens to field just the one side again, while all other clubs confident of having two teams.
A Grade games will stay at 40 overs
A motion was put forth to allow abandoned semi finals (due to weather) to be played on the sunday, but this was unfortunately knocked back by 5 of the 8 clubs. Bit of a farce IMO.
No junior comps. The clubs that typically have juniors (Lens, Birdy, Cambrai, Springton) to again be involved with AEHCA.

Re: South Adelaide Team of the Decade?

Thought I’d give this thread a bump and pull together a team of the decade for 2010-19. Self indulgent stuff, but here it goes..

The decade saw South record 88 wins and 5 draws from 196 games, feature in 4 finals series, collect another wooden spoon in 2010, and be led by Ron Fuller, Kym Cobb (briefly), Brad Gotch, Garry Hocking and Jarrod Wright.

The majority of highlights arose during Gotch’s 3 year reign, including the semi-final thumping of Sturt in 2014. Unfortunately 4 straight finals were lost following that Sturt match, a double chance squandered in 2016 after going 14-4 in the regular season. The residual impact of the dreadful ‘naughties’ lingered in the early part of this decade, while off the field the club felt the pinch financially. Night footy commenced, but unfortunately ceased following the postponed game v the Ravens. The club’s ‘no’ vote in 2013 earned many admirers. Overall though, another decade is added to the premiership drought.

Minimum of 3 years (or roughly 50 games) service required to be considered.

FB: Tarak Redigolo (96), Brad Crabb (180), Tom Fields (88)
HB: Jake Veide (105), Josh Thewlis (72), Matt Rose (103)
C: Nick Murphy (109), Xavier Gotch (132), Toby Stribling (52)
HF: Nathan Daniel (100), Brett Eddy (71), Abe Davis (50)
FF: Peter Rolfe (73), Michael Wundke (58), Brent Macleod (58)
R: Keegan Brooksby (91), Nick Liddle (191), Joel Cross (174)
INT: Daniel Bass (101), Matt Rankine (80), Brede Seccull (66)
EMG: Joe Haines (64), Alex Cailotto (84), Sam Overall (67)

Coach- Brad Gotch

Few random stats to finish on:

Biggest win- South 22.8 (140) def ADE 4.4 (28), Round 11, 2018 @ Noarlunga
Biggest win (disregarding glorified trial games)- South 21.10 (136) def WA 6.5 (41), Round 18, 2016 @ Richmond
Biggest defeat- South 5.8 (38) def by STU 24.11 (155), Round 14, 2010 @ Unley
South 3.11 (29) def by WA 23.8 (146), Round 21, 2013 @ Richmond. Fuller’s final match.
Biggest win streak – 6 games (R15 to SF 2014, and R1 to R7 2016)
Biggest losing streak - 17 games (R6, 2010 to R1, 2011)
Biggest goal haul- Brett Eddy 8 v WA (2016) and Michael Wundke 8 v STU (2011)

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

TVCA kicked off last week. Some early thoughts:

Palmer- Reportedly will have a similar team to last season, although were missing a few in their opening round loss to Mt Torrens. Come good when it matters.
Gumeracha- Half a dozen new faces, with some pretty handy Ins. (Fidge, Spurling in particular). Will be tough to beat once they click
Lenswood- Lost some depth win young lads returning to Woodside, although S. Druwitt will help bowling stocks. Batting inconsistent.
Cambrai- Similar looking side, although always competitive can they win in March?
Paracombe- Same names, but will be keen to atone for a disappointing season last year where they struggled with ball
Mt Torrens- Same names, encouraging opening round win against Palmer. Generally competitive
Birdwood- The rotating door of players seems to have continued. Had a drought breaking win last year, can they improve?
Eden Valley- Back in A Grade ranks, appear to have a reasonable bowling line up with 3 back from Ango and a few other recruits.

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

All A Grade teams in the TVCA have notched up a win after 3 rounds, with Gumeracha the only undefeated side. Lenswood and Cambrai have started well with 2 wins, Palmer off to their typically slow start, while it’s hard to see Eden Valley, Mt Torrens, Birdwood or Paracombe making the 4 at this early stage but still plenty of cricket left. Birdwood breaking through early was encouraging, and the Pirates sitting on the bottom isn’t an unwelcome sight. ;)

In the B’s the early money would be on Gumeracha and Paracombe again playing off at the end of the season. Lenswood have started well, but we’ve made the call to run a second B Grade starting Round 5, so that’ll spread our better players quite thinly. Cambrai should play finals. Eden Valley perhaps best of the rest.

Two fairly competitive grades so far this season.

Re: Adelaide Hills Cricket (HCA, TVCA & A&EH)

How are they picking the two sides for Lenswood in B Grade? Are they selecting the two sides to be as even as possible to give them both a good chance of winning or is one the 'B' team and then the other a 'C' team?

The TVCA bylaws required us to name 8 players in each team that can only play in that particular side. We tried to make the teams relatively even, but were mindful of keeping a group of half dozen guys who all joined the club on the eve of the first round together also. Will be a bit of a balancing act trying to keep people happy.

Should we be fortunate enough to have 3 teams next season, may look at fielding a team in the AEHCA C Grade which would allow us to pick the second and third teams on merit. But we'll worry about then..

Re: Payment to register to play

All junior cricketers had to register through the mycricket website and pay a $5 insurance levy for the first time this season. This replaced the insurance clubs used to pay on a team by team basis for juniors. I assume a spin off of this was it also allowed SACA to obtain more accurate data on junior players, as what gets entered into mycricket by clubs is often pretty patchy and unreliable.

There is talk it’ll become standard process for seniors, perhaps from next season. Will be a pain in the butt when you have guys who are just filling in or who don’t understand the process.

Re: Soooooo, how's this weather?

Friends sister has lost everything in Gumeracha.

Got a mate at Woodside who had to leave, he's not sure how his place fared.
Where abouts in Woodside. I'm in the Jacaranda/Saint Marks estate. A couple of properties on the edge of this estate lost sheds but fortunately no houses lost. Pretty sure all houses in the town are ok. Saw 2 houses up on Ridge Road burnt out & a couple on the main road towards Lobethal.

We live on the top/paddock side of Grevillea Way Cracka and were awfully lucky. Fire reached and made a bit of a mess of our fence but didn't make it into the yard. My parents also live in the estate now and (stubbornly) stayed behind, so to be on the phone to them while they stood in the street trying to explain what was going on was quite terrifying.

Appears 4 homes lost on Ridge Rd, one of which was visible from our yard. A few others gone on the road leading out to Lobethal as you said, and at least one I know of was lost near Bird in Hand. Was awful going for a short walk around the town earlier, but it was also a reminder of how more catastrophic it all could have been. Hopefully the damage out towards Lenswood isn't too bad, as have many friends there.

Thoughts go to those who have suffered loss, and words of thanks wont do justice to the job done by the CFS and other volunteers. Seeing a truck from the Port McDonnell brigade driving through the main street earlier really summed up the effort they make.

A pic of the world class Fox Creek Mountain Bike trails, it was such dense bush in there, the ferocity must have been unbelievable.
]

Have spent countless hours hiking and riding through "Foxies/Mt Crawford" having grown up just around the corner from it. I dont look forward my next visit, but hopefully the bush can recover well enough. :(

B- Langhorne Creek (Echunga)
C- Strathalbyn (Woodside)

HCA
A- Meadows
A2- SCIBS
A3- Kangarilla

Not awarding a premiership would have been a more suitable outcome IMO.

Looks like the majority of clubs have cancelled their presentation dinners etc based on the CA/SACA recommendation. (although majority would fall under the 100 limit specific by the govt).

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

Only 49% attendance at my school site today, 51% at home.
Similar numbers where my mrs is an SSO. Do you think PS attendance is lower than High Schools?
Every person i know in DECS think they should close, just typical teachers Pag? ;)
Not sure exactly on the breakdown of numbers across our year levels from R-12.

If every person in DECD is like me, they're working in a confined space with 15-20 other humans that have little self-hygiene, little-no concept of personal space or social distancing, and with no hand sanitiser available. I'm not surprised they think they should close. ;)

I'm in the department's head office, plenty of room, soap and hand sanitiser here ;) In all likelihood will be working from home shortly however.

However I have empathy as my wife is a public school primary school teacher, who isn't rapt about working currently. Her school had to close half the toilets as they had run out of soap. Approx 50% of her year 3 students are attending currently.

Re: SANFL Clubs

Any news on the Dogs fundraising effort.Last we heard was 50k.

$60,600 Brett.

That's a solid effort to date.

I cant see it posted anywhere else, so might as well share that South started a similar campaign last week.
