Re: R12 Central v North

.....when was the last time we won back to back games.

Central won their last game (Rnd 14) of the 2020 COVID impacted season - The famous win with Hoskin kicking a goal after final siren

The Dogs then won Round 1 v North Adelaide in 2021 on their home soil - Obviously this is 2 wins bracketed over consecutive seasons

The last time Central won consecutive games, within the same season was 2019 - that will make it exactly 1,065 days this coming Saturday if the Dogs can cause back-to-back upsets of the year.

In Round 3 they beat West, followed by a Round 4 win against North - Last official time was a Round 14 over the Eagles and Round 15 over West in season 2019

Re: Round 17 Centrals vs Norwood Sat

Just want to mention the absolute class shown by Jade Rawlings before the game ,he went out of his way to shake the hand and meet Alex our 9 year old Novita child for the day .Jade didnt have to do that so very classy from him well done .
Equally as impressive as the engagement acting Legs skipper Jacob Kennerly showed to the young man at the toss of the coin, pre game.

Have heard good things about Jacob and that he is equally as impressive off field as he is on.

Re: Round 19 in an 18 game Season Glenelg v Central

Im assuming by the reaction of the boys when Luke Habel kicked his goal in the third quarter that he is finishing up.
Nope.

Luke has told me first hand he wants to play on next year and get to 200 games.

Just had another tough year with injuries and I think they were happy for him being in the ones and performing.

Is one of the more popular guys amongst the playing group and one of the nicest blokes you can meet.

Already hearing depth might be tested again with a few fringe types being open to other offers from country/ammos
Don't think that will be an issue next year.

With the first full time dedicated Football Manager appointed in club history, he will be focusing on recruitment and retention and adding to the squad depth will come naturally with that.

Re: retirements and upcoming signings

I wouldn't be surprised if Matthew Goldsworthy pulled the pin. Same with Allmond, although he might have another year in him if his body's feeling OK.
Spoke to Goldy in the canteen line at Prospect on Saturday during the Reserves final.

He said his body isn't feeling too bad and Sheeds is keen for him to play on again next year.

Said he'll have a think about in in coming weeks but mentioned that working at the club is convenient for training etc so gave me the impression he's more likely to play on than retire.

He's only 31 years old, so potentially still has a couple of years left, injury pending.

Trav is now a 3 time winner (equalling his brothers effort) whilst Kyle was runner up last year.
First time in club history the Dogs have had joint Best and Fairest winners.

Nice article in The 'Tiser today from Andrew Capel...

Talked about West Adelaide appointing Jacob Surjan's wife to their board...

https://westadelaidefc.com.au/news/welcome-alison-surjan/

Heard last year the Bloods had thrown a MEGA deal at the current North coach...

Would have been a nice package deal with Alison, but the Bloods couldn't get their man...

Would love to be a fly on wall at the Surjan's dinner table the weeks when West and North play each other.

In one of the great feel good stories of 2022, Double Blues mature age recruit Tom Emmett is selected in the AFL Draft by Fremantle, at pick 41.

Tom had to battle a rare form of cancer a few years back and having called him at League level a few times, know he has some real X-Factor.

Re: SANFL Under 18s and Under 16s

Round 4
Saturday 15th April
North Adelaide v Sturt (Prospect Oval - Under 18s - 12:00pm, Under 16s - 2:30pm)

Myself and Nick Harris called this game for SANFL Now and it was as good as an underage game I've called in a long, long time.

What was also pretty amazing were the amount of Father Son connections in the game, with at least the 10 below that I was aware of.

From memory there were a good dozen to 14 lead changes throughout the course of the contest, with the Double Blues grinding out the win.

NORTH:
Tom Tasker - Son of Sean (NA, GL & ST)
Louis Montgomery - Son of Brett (WA)
Will Blair - Son of Jason (NA)
Oliver Francou - Son of Josh (NA)

STURT:
Connor Mills - Son of Trent (SA)
Ben Spehr - Son of Jason (WWT)
Ned Atkinson - Son of Brodie (NA & ST)
Luca Slade - Son of Matthew (CD)
Sam Waltham - Son of Tom (ST)
Finn Wakelin - Son of Michael (CD)

There was also some other family connections for both sides, with Kobe McEntee for Sturt the younger brother of Power player Jed, Luke Harvey is the younger brother of North big man Mitch, Liam Grubb is the younger brother of former Dogs player and current Rooster Lachlan, North's Under 18's coach Craig Brooks has son Fergus Lamp-Brooks in the team and finally PJ Carlin is the nephew of former SA Olympian Sean.

Re: Magarey Medal 2023

Harry Grant from Central District will win it, I reckon.

Rowe and Allen will be up there, but Eagles don't win enough and Tigers will share the votes.

Dogs have won enough games and even when they have lost, he will still poll a few 2 and 1 preference votes.

He will have plenty of 3 vote games and I think he'll actually win it comfortably.

He dominated the SANFL Now POTY voting and wins that by a country mile.

Re: INS and OUTS for 2024

Early in the COVID period each club sought to raise funds to keep afloat via the Australian Sports Foundation. At the time a list of donors for each club was displayed and Luke Habel had donated to every SANFL league club. I have never met the man, but what a wonderful gesture and also how much the SANFL meant to him.

Yep, that sums up Harbs, to a tee.

He played at country NSW club Ganmain Grong Grong Matong before coming to the Dogs.

When he was regularly playing league footy, I'd always make mention of the GGGM Lions as his former club...

As I got to him a little bit more over the years, he not only got me a FREE beanie of the great GGGMFC he got one for my wife, as well.

Central had never had a Best Team Man award previously. Some important club got rallied the board to introduce this award specifically to acknowledge Luke, who was rightly crowned the inaugural winner.

Re: Round 4 Central v Eagles

Fascinating stat that I’ve worked out this morning doing my preparation for the call on SANFL Now.

Since WWT inception in 1990, there has been 20 of the past 34 Grand Finals played that feature at least one of these two clubs.

There has also been 14 x Premierships won (CD - 9 & EAG - 5) between them and 6 of these GF’s played featured both clubs.

So in the last 34 years, there has been 58.8% of Grand Finals that have featured one or both of the Dogs and Eagles.
