Re: 2023 ICC World Test Championship Final

all test match series' need to be a min of 3 tests.
The final should be the Test Championship series of 3 tests

It's a two year championship not a one off game. Test championship series bye bye neutral venue and hello Indian pitch doctors. A one off game is fine. The best format of cricket's grand final. It was fantastic I thought. England is a great place to hold the event but Lords would have been better as the home of cricket.

The indians' unbeaten run continued on for an eleventh straight win and history suggests this man can't be stopped! If Eddie is in fact, invincible then it appears that everyone else is playing for second, which still gets you a spot in the Premier League next season. Someone must have forgotten to tell Cowpokes and Buckets this as both of these top four sides have yet to win a bye match so far this season. The circling pack include the increasingly consistent Kiwikrappers and Zedforce who fought back to rack up the highest score of the week as they defeated fellow top four aspirant PorterGuns.

Other teams on the way back include Q Before You who have awoken from an early season slumber and he'll take the narrow victory over the last placed Adelaide Crows thank you very much. Pool Swimmers are on the way up with perhaps Jays Jocks going down, now there's an image for you folks. wycbloods and jims TigerRoos have also both woken up and Jimbo's win over Crowmag leaves the door to the finals ajar for all of the teams who have started their run.

One of the more significant matches of the round was the game between the two lowest scoring teams of the competition, Petracca's Picnic and Coromandel Crisis. Neither side could afford to drop this one and it was Petracca who got done, leaving Coro with an invaluable fifth win which surely sees Alaska as safe from relegation. That leaves the relegation fight well and truly on with Picnic having to fight it out with the Crows and the Professor for the right to stay in this division. I reckon Petracca's Picnic is in real trouble so there is still hope for one of the bottom two to escape their fate.

Usually the bye period is when the top teams can be vulnerable and be prone to skipping a day off school. Not so eddieslittleindians who remain unbeaten after 12 rounds. Not only did the indians gain another scalp, they got the highest score of the round which meant the Pool Swimmers were more than a little stiff to get beaten seeing as they carded a pretty decent score themselves.

The chasing pack has been dropping matches but Buckets was one team that did get on the winning list but Zed's excellent victory over the Cowpokes wasn't enough for him to force his way into the top four even though the Kiwi lost as well. Zedforce's win over Cowpokes was not the only significant win as Crowmags held off the bloods to defend their place in the eight and midtable sides Q Before You, Jays Jocks and The Willies all recording important victories as Q won the top eight lottery this week as PorterGuns were tipped out.

The relegation battle may have taken a decisive turn this week as Professor Crow smashed the struggling Petracca's Picnic who looks to be too many troops short to mount an effective resistance. In the bye period Picnic has dropped matches to Coromandel Crisis and now the Professor so Petracca looks ripe for the drop along with last placed Adelaide Crows.

While Ecky and the Farcallers are sailing through the bye period, the middle of the ladder is undergoing turmoil as teams jocky for top eight positions and the right to be in the Premier League next year. Much to my surprise, Poon Army has somehow found themselves in the top four. What is this sorcery? The dude has nearly the same team I have but Hammo is top four while my mob are scratchier than an old dog and battling it out in a relegation scrap. I'm liking the Sharks and Inner Sanctum a lot more, having recent losing experience against both so Poon will have his work cut out trying to defend his top four place. I have my doubts about George too, reckon he's a bit vulnerable from a top four perspective.

Teams on the up this week include FISH and DAISY. Two sides that have finals and scoring history who got off to a terrible start to the season. FISH is bringing back memories of Delicious and Mediocre at Best from last year who started poorly and ended up in the grand final. Nothing wrong with my tipping FISHy! Much to my dismay Chops Clots are back as well. Seeing as I can't win a chook raffle, I was kind of hoping Clottys would do a Richo and disappear down the vortex but no, they had to be Quade! Nice work Choppys but hopefully you pull a shitter when i play you.

The relegation mob appears to be down to 6 at this stage. Chops are unfortunately in reasonable form of late and Roosters, while inconsistent, look to have more wins in them. REBCats and Hondo are on a parallel journey right now, quietly racking up the losses despite scoring ok. At least we are consistent! One of the significant rounds was the spectacular 500 odd point defeat suffered by JOBBY. I think percentage will go a long way to deciding who goes down with popular pick Richo Richo Man. JOBBY's percentage to a hefty hit after the thrashing handed down by Farcallers. It could be the Scud is set up for this bye round and if he is he may be the only team in the nation and he might be able to get that percentage back as well as win this week. If he can't 4 wins probably won't be enough for JOBBY to escape the drop.

Not now that Cameron is subbed out on negative points

That's my first piece of luck all year but at the time I was a bit more worried about Jez and how the **** we were going to win that game. All good on both counts. You'll probably still win that's how bad my team is.

All hands on deck then as most of the better sides in Hogg Premier having a full compliment of scorers back in their team. Three teams went over 2600 this week with the Sharks the most impressive of these who dismissed Poon Army even though hambone carded a pretty decent score himself. The Sharks advanced to the top four at Poon's expense in what is Spiro's strongest challenge in Hogg Premier. Wild HORNEY Berry was another to crack 2600 and they made light work of a Captain Who side that has gone off the boil. Ecky of course was doing Ecky things and he got 2600 as well. Poor old FISH copped a hiding by the ladder leader as they dropped back a match from the eight.

Mediorcre replaced George in the top four after the back to back champions made mincemeat of minnow team REBCats. George has looked wobbly in recent weeks and they dropped another match this week, this time against top eight Inner Sanctum. The biggest threats to the top eight are DAISYDUDS who have copped a ridiculous amount of points against and Roosters who can be very good on their day.

One of the most important matches of the round was Hondo up against JOBBY. Hondo has never been relegated since forcing his way into the Premier League and he secured the vital win against fellow battlers JOBBY. With Richo and Clots getting done, Hondo scrambled away from the relegation zone in what was a very tightly fought match.

A month out from finals and we might have the top eight sorted already. On current form I'd say DAISY for George but DAISY has left his run very late and he is one loss away from missing out. Ecky is the definite front runner but Far Callers, Sharks and Mediocre (again) are all strong challengers. The relegation situation is far from settled. Richo and REBCats are dragging the arse with scoring and Richo is in real bother as he needs to win perhaps two of is last four to escape. There are still a couple of matchups to decide who goes down but boy mob will go awful close to this. I've had a Barry Crocker.

Re: Hogg Premier League 2023

Thanks for pointing out the points against REB, bloody stiff this year I reckon, 3rd highest points for but every other team has the best game whenever they play me. Still have trades so hoping to sneak into the 8 and anything can happen. Can set my season up by knocking off Far Callers this week and then my draw opens up a bit but as I've seen all year, the guys struggling will no doubt score 2500 when they play me.

Even I scored against you LOL. While I deserve to be where I am you certainly don't. I'll make sure I wave you goodbye when my sorry arse gets relegated 8)

Re: Hogg Premier League 2023

The Run Home

Here's how the winners (and losers) are shaping up in the last three weeks of the minor round. Selections in bold .

1. Ecky’s Fevolas 56 ( Wild HORNE Berry, Poon Army, Chops Clots )
Ecky deserves to start favourite in all three of these but the next two aren’t easy. I reckon they win the lot and win the minor premiership. Points – 68 Position – 1

2. The Far Callers 48 ( Sharks, Captain Who, REBCats )
The Callers will win all three to retain second spot. This week’s match against Sharks is a beauty but it gets easier on the way in to the finals. A chance to preserve trades in the last round. Points 60 Position – 2

3. Sharks 40 (The Far Callers, Delicious, Hondo Crows SCC )
Don’t think Spiro can get the Callers this week but should go on and win two more. This would leave the Sharkies with a first up final against the Callers again. Points 48 Position - 3

4. Summer of George 40 ( TEAM_FISH , Roosters, Mediocre at Best)
Georgie boy looks the most vulnerable of the teams currently in the top four and I reckon he only wins one of his last three to eventually miss out. Points 44 Position - 6

5. Poon Army 36 ( REBCats , Eckys Fevolas, Inner Sanctum )
Poon has the percentage advantage over George with this likely to increase as he will get closer to Ecky than REBCats will get to Poon. If Hammo can roll Sanctum in the last round he gets into the top four and I reckon he does so. Points 44 Position - 4

6. Mediocre at Best 36 (Inner Sanctum, Team FISH, Summer of George )
I reckon that Mediocre will drop one of the next two and win two of these games. Good enough to win all three but I don’t think it will turn out that way. Points 44 Position - 5

7. Inner Sanctum 36 ( Mediocre at Best ,Wild HORNE Berry, Poon Army)
It’s too tight to be backing any of these sides for three out of three against each other so I reckon Sanctum gets two as well. Might not necessarily be Mediocre but can’t see Sanctum winning the lot here. Points 40 Position - 8

8. Wild HORNE Berry 32 (Eckys Fevolvas, Inner Sanctum, TEAM_FISH )
Two wins for HORNEY if they can knock off Sanctum. A match up with Eckys is most unwelcome for anyone at this stage of the year. Points 40 Position - 7

9. Roosters 28 ( JOBBY the GOAT , Summer of George, Richo Richo Man )
A couple of winnable games for the Chooks but will need to beat George to make the eight, not sure they get the job done. Points 36 Position - 9

10. Delicious 28 (DAISYSDUDS, Sharks, Captain Who )
Not liking Delicious in the next two so no grand final appearance this season. Will finish with a consolation win over the Captain. Points 32 Position - 11

11. Captain Who? 28 ( Chops Clots , The Far Callers, Delicious)
Can only see one more win for the Captain here and the Clots won’t be a pushover either based on recent form. Wouldn’t back them with your money against the Callers but some chance against valleys. Not this year. Points 28 Position - 13

Relegation Battle 2023

14 REBCats 20 (Poon Army, Chops Clots, The Far Callers)
My team is shot and will drop the lot. It won’t be easy trying to defend my dwindling percentage against this lot. A very real chance to wave you all goodbye. Points 20 Position -15

15 Hondo Crows SCC 16 ( Richo Richo Man , DAISYS DUDS, Sharks)
Not that happy that Hondo hasn’t played Richo yet. He will win that game and slip by me on percentage. ****. Points 20 Position – 14

16 JOBBY the Goat 16 (Roosters, Richo Richo Man, DAISYS DUDS)
Bewdy. JOBBY gets Richo as well. Not looking good. However JOBBY has been scoring about as well as me lately so Richo might salute…sheesh I hope. Points 16 – Position 18

17 Chops Clots 16 (Captain Who?, REBCats , Eckys Fevolas)
I won’t be the only one who hopes Richo gets the job done against JOBBY. Any percentage gain Clots would get by playing me will be erased by a last round clash against the might Ecky. He escapes….just . Points 20 Position – 16

18 Richo Richo Man 16 (Hondo Crows, JOBBY the GOAT , Roosters)
Can’t see Richo escaping the drop due to that poor percentage but they can avoid the spoon by knocking off JOBBY. Absolutely crucial round in two weeks time. Points 20 – Position 17

The battle for the top eight tightened right up in Round 16 as five of the top eight all got rolled in what was carnage for SuperCoaches across the land. The top two sides escaped pretty much unharmed as they carded wins against fellow top eight contenders but perhaps the big winner was Mediocre at Best who won a hard fought match against Inner Sanctum that gave them the inside running on the double chance. Perhaps the threepeat is back on after all.

The two top eight sides that really failed to flatter were Summer of George who were upset by TEAM_FISH and in an even bigger upset the struggling REBCats turned around some ordinary recent form to roll the fancied Poon Army whose top four credentials were badly damaged. Roosters and DAISYS DUDS are two teams that will be happy with the way the results turned out with both sides right back in finals contention. Captain Who has been lost at sea in recent weeks but they hit back as well and they are back in town as well.

The relegation battle took a decisive turn with the heat right on Chops Clots and Richo Richo Man who currently occupy the hot seat. Richo look to be in real trouble especially with that poor percentage. They were rolled by an equally desperate Hondo who skipped four points clear of the drop. JOBBY is another side who are struggling at the moment and they were well beaten by the Roosters so the heat is still right on for the scud man. REBCats probably look safe now with six wins and a reasonable percentage.

Two to go folks!

That Michael DeVenuto is still our batting coach. How many batting collapses during his tenure? How many players have improved, especially overseas? A major part of the boys club cricket set up which is seeing us several rungs below where we should be. Even Warner is more useful than our ******* batting coach. Piss him off ffs.

To beat this Indian team of superstars in their own backyard was a great win

I agree mally. I think this was our best World Cup win. 1987 was pretty good but I don't think any of the teams in that particular world cup were of the standard of this current Indian team. While they under performed last night there just isn't a weak link. A remarkable performance. It was so good to see us master Jadeja, just once. He has been our nemesis for years.

Re: Australian International Summer 2023/24

Has there been a batsman as tall as Cam Green who has been successful in the past. I’ve been trying to rack my brain for one. He always looks stiff and awkward like a tail ender. Is it possible to be too tall to be a good bat?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

While it's a very good question I don't think it's his height that is the problem. Camping on the front foot might be ok in H Division turf but it's not such a suave move at the highest level. You know my thoughts on our batting coach. I firmly believe that development is major part of even the highest level (I think Bob Simpson proved this as early as 1987) and when you have a guy who has a job for life I can't see how Green is going to get the direction he needs. Every coach worth his salt is currently studying Green, Marnus and has studied Smith and we are getting diminishing returns. I reckon Head and even Marsh will be under that very same gun. If we don't move forward we go backwards and our current set up is conservative in the extreme and driven by extremely confident player power who appear to be all too keen to rest on it's laurels.

Feel for Brayshaw, must be devastating … no one deserves that.

In my small mind, confirms that the rule change this year brought in only because of the Maynard/Brayshaw incident is totally unwarranted.

Seemingly any contact, no matter how innocuous, would be a danger to Brayshaw.

It's the same kneejerk reaction that brought in the sliding in rule because Rohan broke his leg.

A couple of no shows this season in Division I and Premier so both of these leagues will be sixteen teams leagues in 2024. Hey REB,

Sincere apologies for my extreme tardiness - just confirming that I won't be participating this season. Work & family commitments have left me with no time to devote to this, and me fielding a side would be an embarrassment against the standards that Premier has set for itself for the time in which I have been a part of it.

I've thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this league and appreciate the extensive time that you dedicate to it. Wishing all Hogg players the very best for this season and beyond :)

No worries bud but leave the embarrassment to the league role to me, that's my specialty. See you on the other side of the valley. :D

TLDR. Hinkley is Blight era Geelong. Thankfully, he's brought that culture to a club that used to win things back then. Happy days.

regards,

How he couldn't get that Cats side at least 1, yet got the Crows 2, will have me clueless until my last breath.

We played peak Hawthorn and West Coast with a shithouse bottom six. In 89, not ready, 92, the one that got away, 94, played out of our skins just to qualify and went in injured. Crows got St Kilda with no ruckman and Roos who kicked themselves out of it .

regards,

REB

Who were both raging favourites against us, but yeah go on

Would have killed to play St Kilda without a ruckman instead of a team playing in their seventh straight grand final or the WA state team, but yeah go on. A home final for finishing above the Crows in 97 would also have been handy.

Re: AFL 2024

I suspect the idea was to prevent the NRL, which started this weekend, from getting the 'jump' on the AFL.

Staggering rounds is also probably good for TV ratings - e.g. more Friday night footy etc.

Why on earth they thought it was a good idea to call it anything other than Round 1 I have no idea.

But the NRL got the jump anyway by going to Vegas lol. The best way to put League in it's place is to let people actually watch a round or two of it. By then you are gagging for footy.

When does the price rise take affect?

Is it after this round 2 or after round 3. The round zero has thrown me off.

Price rises come in the third game that player plays. So Round zero guys who have played two matches are on the bubble. Not so Carlton and Brisbane as they have the bye.

While the Indians are usually top of teepee around here, this season some Cowpokes have ridden into town and have hogtied Divvy I with a bout of heavy scoring that left the rest of the Hogg behind. A massive 2124 was more than enough to ensure that Coro didn’t creep in as the pokes lead the stampeding pack behind them. PorterGuns shot down Petracca’s Picnic after the cubman got out to a massive lead but the Guns gradually hauled in the Picnic who was cursing Short and Rosey at the close of play. HeadButters scored well and remained unbeaten while wycbloods joined the competition a week late to smash his brother Richo which sent the man to the bottom of the ladder. Pooly also had a high scoring win in a match that shows Jims Tiges aren’t great swimmers. Highly ranked Zed, Clots and Slothy haven’t fired a shot yet with Herb opening his account with in yet another close one for the Spices.

Round 2 of Divvy IV action was all about close matches and unlucky losers. 2000 was an above par score in SuperCoach so if you get 2000 in Division IV then you are entitled to think you’ve banked the four points. Not so for the luckless STAR MIDFIELD and Young’s Young Ones who lost by 2 and 3 points respectively after scoring over 2000. Fantasy Virgin popped their cherry with the high quality win while the Bulldogs got the job done in the other squeaker. Bont stayed on top of the ladder with another decent score and already they look the team to beat in this division. The One Point kickers smashed out a league high 2024 with Heater in career best form at the moment. The kickers were a former Divvy V struggler, but now a Divvy IV contender. The Heater is on!

ZedForce and Petracca’s had a classic contest as two sides with almost the same team faced off with Zed falling over the line with a ten point victory. Richo Richo opened his account with a comfortable victory over PorterGuns while Pool Swimmers and Coromandel Creeps consolidated their top eight spots with high scoring wins. The Cowpokes had the day off and won while HeadButters had the day off and didn’t. Slothy opened their account while Clots didn’t and it hasn’t taken long for the wheat and the chaff to get sorted. Indians already looking the team to beat but we thought that last year.

The Premier League performed strongly in a low scoring round with several coaches topping 2000 last weekend. But the boldest statement was made by reigning premiers HORNY who smashed out a muscular 2131 in what ended up being a 200 point win as over Sanctum who tumbled as badly as an Australian gymnast to fall out of the top eight. Ecky, Poon, Mediocre and top scoring Hondo all scored convincing wins but ladder leaders where lucky to survive a late charge from the battling the battling REBCats who came home with a wet sail and Elliot Yeo to have the Chooks sweating on Sunday evening but alas no roast Chook for me. The Willies and FISH pretty stiff to lose after scoring well but Punky and Jobby screwed the pooch and were never going to salute on the back of those scores.

Last weekend was a SuperCoach bonanza but most of the teams in this division must have missed the memo. One who didn’t was Gingernuts who’s mighty Ninjas delivered a stunning knockout blow to Biker Babes Best, a team that was doing well early doors but now appears to have the staggers. Several top eights sides carded the par 2200 score to record victories but on the whole the Divvy V crew showed whey they are down here. Knights and Fine Wines lead the pack but it’s all about the scoring and for me Ginge, Strongy and Cellar Dwellers look to be the more convincing Division IV aspirants.
